Knitting Newbie - Help please...?

I'm trying to follow a pattern (easy enough, or so I thought...) for a baby hat.

Bit stuck now, as instructions read:
Row 1 K2,* P1,K1 repeat from * to end.
Repeat row 1 for next 9 rows.

Have knitted two rows, purled one then knitted another - so now what? Where do I repeat from - do I knit two rows, purl another and knit another again then repeat accordingly?

And by repeat row for 9 rows, does that mean I repeat knitting these three rows (two knit rows, a purl row and another knit row) nine times? Because I was sure a row meant completing the stitches on the needle.

Yes, the directions are obvious, and are meant to be done EXACTLY as written. Don't try to analyze or guess or create anything new out of them. Do one stitch at a time just as it is written right there.

I take it that you have never taken any lessons in knitting. I would suggest that the first step is to take a beginner course. Should have gotten them for Christmas! You will learn what all these directions mean, and how to do them. Then you won't be confused. Classes are offered at any lys*, at community centres, at church groups, or girl groups, or libraries, or a local guild, or even tea shops will have a knitting group meeting there. Just ask around.

Row 1 is done simply as it states, over and over and over again, until you have 9 completed rows. Those numbers are stitches, not rows!!

In your instructions for row 1 - k2, *p1, k1 repeat from * to end. means to knit one stitch, purl the next stitch. repeat this k1 and p1 on the whole row. When you turn to knit the next row, the stitches that you knitted will appear as purl stitches. Be sure to purl them. Repeat this k1 and p1 for nine rows. After nine rows you will have ribbing which is springy like elastic.
