Is it possible to introduce a kitten into a home with a cat and dog?

I'm considering getting my sister a kitten for Christmas but our home already has a cat and a dog.

The cat is about 3 years old, the dog is 2. It's a shih-tzu, tiny animal, gets on well with the cat already and vice versa so would introducing a kitten be a good thing or a bad thing?

Yes it is possible i have three dogs and got a kitten. At first the dogs went insane but the cat was like a little kid he was like whatever and played along and after a while they got used to eachother and are best friends

The new kitten would most likely not have a problem because the are so impressionable at that age so it would not see it as strange or against its nature. However, whenever introducing any new pet into a home with existing pets you never know exactly how it will work out. It sounds to me that since you already have a cat fine with dogs and a dog fine with cats that you should probably be just fine. But its never a guaranteed thing.

As long as you take things slow, yes. In August, I got a kitten for my birthday, and while it took a little while for the other two animals (female Chihuahua/Dachshund mix dog and neutered male cat) to get used to her, they have in the few months she's been here. At first Zoe (my kitten) hated Brandy (our dog), and Gizmo (male cat) didn't like her too much, but I put this thing on Gizmo called Pro Pet's Anti Stress Calming Collar ($8 at Walmart, green/white box) and within a few days he was used to her. Our female pets (dog and kitten) just kind of ignore each other. LOL.

the kitten should be fine, as long as everyone else still gets lots of attention, because its very possible they'll get jealous. other than that, usually things work out great

it would be a good thing because i have four cats and three dogs.... they get along fine
