introduction and advice please

Hello,
I am currently a registered midwife working within an independent practice in London, and am looking at training in reflexology. I have looked at courses run by the AoR, ITEC approved and also VCET and have got myself completely confused, with costs and length of course etc.
So basically I would like to hear both good and bad from people who have completed their training. Also does anyone know whether I wold definately need to do the ITEC A&P course on top of the reflexology, bearing in mind that my midwifery degree covered a huge amount of A&P?
One final question, has anyone trained at the Maureen Burgess School of reflexology (AoR approved), as this is the closest school to me.

Hi Madwife, love the name.

I think the Maureen Burgess school has a good reputation. I'm very happy to have traiined with the AOR, as I am sure other therapists are with their specific training. I think the workload is similar between ITEC and AOR, VTCT may be a lighter workload. AOR combine the A & P with the practitoner course.

We were encouraged to treat people with interesting conditions as case studies and aren't very limited with contra-indications. Its not usually required or emphasized that you must get GP's permission before treating. Unlike a friend on her course who was virtually unable to treat anyone with anything wrong with them due to contra-indications. But that may have been an isolated experience.

In support of my own organization, One advantage with aor training is that you automatically become a member, with good resources available to you and support groups for post grad training and a regular training magazine with research etc is included.
I know that friends have found it expensive and not easy to later join the aor as you have to submit case histories and do another exam.

I'm sure other reflexologist with different training will be happy to put the pros and cons of their own experience.

Whatever path you take I'm sure you will enjoy it and be in great demand as you are already a midwife. (I'm totally envious).

Hello Madwife

I did my practitioner training through the AoR and like Jan, I can highly recommend them. Once your training is over, you have the resources and support of the association there for you. The A&P was part and parcel of my course but even though you will still have to cover it as part of your training, you will have the advantage of knowing most of it already andyou will have more time to spend on the actual reflexology and case studies. Lucky you!

What a great combination, midwifery and reflexology I am sure you will be in great demand... especially if you chose to concentrate on reflexology during pregnancy and childbirth later on.
