Introducing two cats...?

I have a friendly, nuetered 7 year old cat who isn't too fond of other animals (mostly dogs but he hasn't been around many cats). Within the next week I will be getting a 9 week old kitten from my grandmother. But she hasn't told me the gender. She might not be able to tell. What is the BEST way to introduce them considering they will be living together from now on? Also, will my older cat be fatherly, friendly, standoffish, etc to the kitten or will it be completely unoredictable? Thanks for any information or advice you may have!

Older cats period aren't likely to like any other animals. I have a many 12 year old cat who can't stand any new animals that we get. I've had countless number of cats while growing up, and we don't really introduce our cats to each other. We do, however, let the kitten know where their catbox, food, and water are and let them explore the home that they will be living in. Starting with a small room first and then letting them venture out. If the older cat comes up to the kitten hissing and harassing during the first week, move and "shoo" away the older cat, so not to tramatize the kitten. After the kitten is use to the home, then leave the cats to connect, play, or completely ignore each other. Knowing kittens, the kitten might try to play with the older cat.
