Introducing older dog to new puppy?

Recently, a family friend has passed away and left her puppy with no home. We have been strongly considering taking her in, the biggest problem being our current dog. He is 8 years old, and does NOT like other animals. He has been spoiled rotten his whole life and has always been our only pet. We have introduced the two before, and he has not wanted anything to do with the puppy, and snapped at her twice. Our biggest concern is that the introduction of the new puppy will cause mental stress to our current dog, and cause him to die prematurely. We don't want to ruin his older years by bringing something in that will make him miserable every day. Has anyone heard of this happening? Or will they become used to each other eventually? Does anyone know a better way to introduce the new puppy? We are trying our best to consider all of our options, and do the best thing for both dogs. If letting the puppy go to another home will be best, that is what we are going to do, but we really want to try and help.

introducing them on a neutral ground like an unknown park to both of them is good. if you bring the other dog to your house your older dog will get more aggresive. also there may be a little tension at first, this is normal. they need to establish who is the pack leader. there is a problem if there is constant tension after they have met and have known each other for over a
week p.s. it is good to socialize your dog at a local dog park. this will make it easier to introduce your dog to other dogs.

All you have to do is introduce her/ him take the puppy outside while the other dog cools it. have the dogs favorite person go in the house apartment etc. and bring back in the puppy. if the dog is OK then do not put her/him in the cage if she is still mad put her/him in the cage and place the puppy in front most likely the puppy will start trying to lick or be nice to its new friend. until the dog cools it again let it out and you should be set!!
