Introducing male rats to each other?

I have a 6 month old male rat that i just adopted from the humane society and a smaller and younger male rat that i bought from petsmart. They are both very nice little rats and the older one is very sweet to me. The younger one let me play with him and hold him the very first day i had him. Once i make sure they are both healthy i plan on introducing them together. What are some good ways to do this?
I was thinking i would keep the oldest rat in a very large dog kennel and keep the younger rat in a smaller hamster cage that i would keep inside the dog kennel so they can get use to each other but still be seperated. Would this be okay to do to get them use to each other?

I've done this with guinea pigs and I discover the best way is to introduce them outside their cages and do it in a open wide free place and make sure you can pick one of them up just in case they start a fight.. Once they get used to eachother put the old one in the cage FiRsT then the younger one. They probably will fight and it'll go on for no longer than 5 min. Hope I helped
