Introducing a new cat, will mine ever be the same again?

I have two cats both 7 months old, brother and sister (Phil and Phoebe). My friend is having to re-home her cat who is 5 months old (Lily). I said if my two and hers were ok together then i would have her as i didnt want her to go into a rescue shelter.

Anyway, she brought her round in her cat basket and both of mine were quite eager to see what was going on, Lily wouldnt come out of her box and was hissing and growling at mine, which i read would be normal, so i put mine out of the room and let Lily out of her box and she was fine.

Its only been a couple of hours and Phil is hissing and growling at Lily, and now wont even go near his sister, Phoebe either, why is this? They have always been really close and snuggle up together, play together and clean each other! Now its like he hates her. She is really scared of him now and keeps hiding.

I know that I should probably give Lily back to my friend so she can find another home for her but will my two ever be the same again? I have never seen Phil like this, he is even asleep and growling!

Please help me out!

Cats don't go by sight, they go by smell. I think after a while once she smells like the home and the others, they will get used to her.

You don't say why your friend needs to re home this cat? Anyway it can take weeks before the cats accept each other its been 9 weeks since i got my kitten and my older cat still hasn't taken to her after 9 weeks she has only just started to come up for cuddles something she was craving for so she took the bull by the horns and came up so slowly shes getting back to normal you need to be patient and take your time rome wasn't built in a day, your cat may never be the best of friends with the other but may grow to tolerate her that took my cat about 2 weeks before they would eat side by side get the new cat or if you like the older ones a safe house so they get a break from each other my kitten ir she has had enough of being growled out goes to the bathroom for a cat nap shes stays there overnight too. good luck and keep trying
