So I adopted an 8 week old kitten last week, and am working on introducing him slowly to my older cats; two older females. One of the older cats is usually very friendly, and the other doesn't really like being around other animals. The friendly cat used to be best friends with another cat who died of a tumor last year. Part of the reason for the kitten is that she will hopefully have a buddy, because the other cat doesn't want to play or sleep next to her even when she tries.
OKAY. That was just some background info. Right now I've been keeping the kitten in a separate room, and letting him out only for small amounts of time under supervision around the more friendly cat. Mostly she stares at him, but she hisses, and sometimes the kitten leaps at her and tries to play so she swatted him today and hissed. The other cat hisses and sometimes runs away. But I know this is somewhat normal to a certain extent, I'm just hoping this behavior improves over time.
Does anyone have any advice on how to handle the situation that might make it better for all the involved animals?
