I have read the steps for introducing a new cat into the home - Isolate into a separate room, let them smell each other for a week or so, then put up "baby" gates to cover the door between so they can see each other and get a little more used to each other, then in another week or so try the full face-to-face meet.
I like the idea, but here are my problems and questions...
I have 2 cats to move in. There is 1 cat already in the house. There are 2 small dogs but they are kept in the kitchen. The 2 news cats are a mother (8 years old) and son (3 years old), both are fixed and I plan to have both of them front declawed. Mom-cat is mostly laid back but defensive when approached by other animals. Son-cat is more aggressive and has a bit of an attitude problem, he was fixed to lessen his aggression (he was attacking his own mother) and it seems to have calmed some but he's still has a little attitude. The current cat is a male (around 5 years old) who is front declawed and fixed. He hasn't been around many other cats - if any - and seems to be passive to most things, but can get worked up in certain situations.
Should I introduce each new cat separately? Which one should I introduce first - Mom-cat or Son-cat? Should I wait until the healing from declawing is complete before bringing the new cats into the house? What if, once everyone is together, 2 are ganging up on 1?
Thanks for all the help!
