I'm in the process of introducing a new kitten to our one year old cat...?

He's been here for two days in his own room. My other cat is pretty pissed about his coming and hisses at the door, although her behavior is improving. They have not seen each other yet as expert advice and reading up on this subject has instructed. My question is, I'm taking Benvolio (new kitten) to the vet tomorrow...do you think I should leave his door open when we leave so Dot (older cat) can smell around? Or, is it too soon? She seems to be coming around slowly, and I don't want to set her back by overwhelming her with another cats scent, especially because no one will be home to monitor her. But, it also might be good for her to become more familiar with Benvolio's scent. Any advice?

Yep I feel your pain I had the same problem heres what I did for about four days i let them watch each other day four my one yr old cat had same problem I let them communicatenot to fight after a couple days he calmed down and turned into his big brother I love cats... Anyways I also noticed him vetting chilled when I got the young cats brother they turned into a team and then they calmed down ALOT and came a trio

I had the same problem with my cats when I started introducing new members to the family. I would leave the door open while you go to the vet. Never a bad idea to let the "dominate" cat investigate. The best way is to keep them separate for the most part. Everyday sit in the room with both of them and let them investigate each other. Of course you don't want anyone to get hurt so just sit and watch to make sure. I would recommend removing the food bowls from the room while this visitation goes on. I experienced that it cause a problem by having it there. My dominate cat helped herself to the other cats bowl and tried clawing the kitten when she approached. Little by little the cats will get adjusted to each other. Just make sure that you supervise them and the door is shut. Let them start at about 5-10 minutes together in the room and increase the time. It took my cats about 2 weeks of this then I let them have full run of the house together. They still had little confritations but give it some time and all will be well. Good Luck!
