I'm a newbie, with a 5-gallon tank?

Hi, I just got a 5-gallon tank with light and filter. I really wanna kick-start my aquarium.
I know about the 1 gallon per fish rule and i just wanna know besides a betta what other type of fish can i have in my tank. One will be enough. Or should i just get 7 tetras??

Just buy one really flashy bright Betta. Tetras need at least 20 gallons. Besides that, Bettas are solitary fish and don't play nice with others.

The one inch per gallon rule is a flat lie. Sorry.
I would get a Betta and some shrimp (ghost shrimp). That is all that will fit in there. I have 8 Betta's (and 6 ghosties)and if you have the tank sponge filtered and heated, they are very active. They all have there own little personalities to. Super cuties. I would feed them blood worms, brine shrimp, and pellets. You also need to fast them one day a week.

You can get a betta and some large shrimp, like amano or adult ghost shrimp, and snails.

There are certain types of fish that might work, like chili rasboras and ember tetras. You could get 5 of these and 1 betta. However these fish are hard to find, you'll probably have to special order them. The inch per gallon rule in nonsense, most fish have different bioloads. For example, you couldn't keep a 4 inch molly in a 4 gallon container because mollys have a huge bioload. However, you could keep 20 inch long neon tetras in a 15 gallon tank because they have a small bioload.

Tetras are small but need LOTS of room and space, 5 gallons is too small. They need a 10 gallon.

Bettas, barbs, and guppies can go in your tank.

Not seven but! If u do water changes weekly and keep filter and Heater running, u might be able to get away with 5. Ok people say it's to small but try it, who knows! My friend had like 7 guppies in one keep the heater at about 78-80 degrees F
