I'm expanding my practice to encompass equine massage. I'm so excited and I absolutely love working with horses. I've been getting in a lot of practice time on my own and my friend's horses. I'm waiting on my new business cards, which should be here soon.
It will soon be time for me to send letters to the nearby racing and show barns/farms introducing myself and my services. Does anyone have any examples or ideas of what my letter should contain? It doesn't have to necessarily pertain to equine massage, just some ideas of how to word things etc?
Also, do you think it would be okay if I offered to come out to the barns and meet with the owner in person and give a free "demonstration" on one of their horses, explaining my techniques and the benefits etc? Or would that seem too desperate?
I am not offering my services for free or at a discounted rate right now while I'm still getting practice time, I'm only working on close friend's horses whom I would work on for free anyway as a favor. I don't think its wise to start a practice with "I'm a beginner so I'm only charging $20 right now". That never works, so when I start to market my business I will be charging full-price, but do you think a "demo" massage with the opportunity to meet and talk with the barn owners/managers in person would be okay?
