I went to see a new pup to buy 1. The breeder introduced the pup but it ended badly.

Why? I saw an ad in the newspaper that someone has a litter of rottweiler pups who are well taken care of. So i called that guy and he said that i can come and see the pups (they were around 9 weeks each).

And then besides those pups was a fully grown rottie staring at me in a very hateful way. The breeder said that its the mom of those pups and she is well trained too.

The pups were sitting near the mom, so when i tried to pick up one pick the mom striked me with her paw on my wrist and i developed a cut. Then she got so angry, she started barking at me furiously and showed her teeth a lot.

The pups were very cute, but the mom does not let any pup get separated from her. So then how am I to get the pup? The breeder apologized and said tomorrow she will be fine, but i doubt it.

What to do?

The mum is just protecting her pups, just like a human would protect their sons/daughters.
You should ask the breeder if he could seperate the mother from the pups and interact with the puppies by themselves. If there was a pup that caught your eye you should reserve him/her with the breeder and pick them up when the time comes for them to leave their Mum, just keep back from the paws or ask for the Mum again to be seperated!

The mum is just being a good mum, she is protecting her pups. Just like people protect there children from strangers, animals do the same. The person that showed you the animals should of let you see the pups and mums separately. You could of then chosen a pup and see if you bonded or not. Don't just go for the cute one, make sure you get the right personality dog for you and your household. You don't want a high energy animal if your a laid back kind of person etc.

Well, first you don't just walk up to a female ANYTHING that you are not familiar with that has a litter of babies and just start picking them up.

You let the owner pick up the pups or have him remove mom from the room.

And BTW: buying from a Newpaper ad...red flag...BYB maybe?

If I did not like the temperament of the b*tch, there is no way I would put my hand in my wallet & bring a puppy of that breeding into my home.

They are really protective about there young ones and I would go back if i were you. Ask the owner to remove the mother from the pups and see them all. Just keep in mind that rotties can be very agggressive if you dont train them well. Also you need to walk or even jog your dog everyday! They dont just need it they thrive for it. They are working dogs... they were made for work. So if you end up getting one, treat him/her well and good luck!

The breeder is a dork.

Find another dog from a more reputable breeder. You do not want any dog, especially a powerful breed like a rottie from any dog that has temperament issues. I'm not condeming the dog, the breeder is at fault here. However, I'd shy away from any puppy who has a dam that has ANY aggression issues.

It sounds like a tall story just to have a dig at the Rottweiler breed to me.
Maybe the owner didn't think you would be a suitable person to have one of his pups so gave the dog a sign to guard.

Sounds like a back yard breeder in any case. Reputable breeders of well bred Rottweilers don't need to advertise in newspapers.

run like hell..if the mom has that type of temperament, she should have never been bred. The pup will most likely have the same problem, and can only cause you problems later on.
Rotties have a bad enough rap without people breeding crappy dogs, and people supporting these lousy breeders..

If i were you I would either ditchthat breeder or even breed sometimes those types of dogs can get pretty mean. I know it's the way there brought up but they have a bad reputation and they stick to it pretty well. If I were you I would try something like a golden retriever or a lab or a bernese.

the mom dog is just protecting her babies, you shouldnt take it personally. how would you feel if you just had babies and a strange man walked in off the streets and started reaching for you baby. You'd be very upset and try to protect it. You have to let the breeder take it from the mom dog then give it to you, (the nurse comes in and takes the baby from you and you trust the nurse, then the nurse gives the baby away to the strange man off the street and the strange man walks out and you never see him or the baby again)

you dont do anything...if you want a puppy, call the breeder back and ask him if you can interact with the puppies w/o the mom present. Dogs get protective over their puppies, that's not her fault and not the puppys fault. But ther breeder should have known better...

Find a better breeder. If the mother has such a nasty temperament, why would you want one of her puppies? She never should have been bred in the first place.

By the time puppies are 9 weeks old, the dam shouldn't be so concerned about them any more. The fact that she was so threatening toward you means that she simply has horrible temperament in general.

ask the breeder to take the mother away your next visit then it will be fine, but instead go getting pups from breeders who only crate more homeless pets,go to BestFriends.com They have pups on there that need a good home and you could supply it for them! =))

Mothers will be protective over their young but i wouldn't buy this pup.
1. Pups should have been handled from day 1 to be weighed etc, the mother should be used to people handling her pups.
2. Mother should have been socialized better before bringing in a potential buyer.
3. If the mother has aggressive tendencies (or father for that matter) it will be passed to the pups through being badly bred.
4. He advertises in the newspaper.....
5. Did you see the father or a picture of him at least? Did he even know who the father was? Did he show you health test results for both mother and father? Did he go through a buyers contract with you that discussed a returns policy? Are the pups registered? Are the parents titled? - If any of these is no, stay well clear.

Many female dogs get over-protective and a little aggressive around strangers. The breeder should have removed the pup for you, and certainly should have known better.

There are a number of red flags here. One is that the mother dog was that aggressive. It suggests that either the breeder is neglecting the socialization of the pups or that the mother has a bad temperment in general. It certainly doesn't prove either of these situations (and the female may be just fine when the litter isn't around), but it's a concern. If you go back, you might want to ask to interact with the mother without her pups around. If she's still showing signs of aggression, that's a bad sign. It's not normal Rottweiler behavior.

Another is that the breeder was clueless enough about her own dog to just let you try and take one of her pups away. I doubt very much that there have been no other vistors. Even if no-one else has been attacked yet, there surely should have been warning signs that a good breeder would have picked up on. This is the biggest red flag to me. I don't think you should go back.
