I need help introducing a 5 week female puppy to a 7 week old male puppy?

In a few days, we will be bringing home a 5 week old female chihuahua/poodle mix pup. Her name is Juno. Yes, I know that she is too young, but her mother died when she was 3 weeks old and all of her litter mates have already been taken to their new homes. Her owners don't want to keep her anymore so that is why we are bringing her home early.

I have a 7 week old male pit bull puppy, we've had him since he was 4 weeks. His name is Rocky. We got him so young because his previous owners didn't want the litter in the first place, so they sold them at 4 weeks. I figured if I didn't take him home, somebody worse would.

I have never had more than one dog at a time, so I do not know how to introduce Rocky to Juno. Also, how do I introduce both of them to older dogs? I plan on socializing them after their second round of shots.

Just so you know, I didnt get these puppies from breeders. They were both family friends whose dogs just happened to mate. They were unwanted litters. So try not to be mean, yeah?

if you take them on a walk together they will develop a pack. If your pitbull is social there will be no problems introducing your new dog.

Family friends ? Personally I wouldn't and don't have ignorant friends

There are no accidental pregnancies in people or animals just ignorant uneducated owners


What you should have done and still should is to Report the morons to your local Animal control as it is ** illegal ** to home pups that young.

When someone decides to allow their b*tch to get pregnant they have to care for the pup until they are 8-12 weeks old....They made the decision not to have their b*tch spayed or the dog neutered so they should be responsible for the pups they allowed to be produced.

I am beyond words for your even excepting pups that young and not being weaned

I think you need to find responsible friends .. what you have now is ignorant people in your life who could care less about their responsibilities for not knowing how to properly care for an intact b*tch.

talk to your vet as you need more info on how to raise this puppy for another 7 weeks besides introducing to another puppy

Most issues have been covered here. The pups will get along fine because they're baby puppies. However DO NOT take the advice suggesting you take these unvaccinated puppies out for a walk together. At this age they do not need a walk to get to know eachother and taking unvaccinated baby puppies out is taking an unnecessary risk with their health.

Why don't you want us to post links? The real experts don't have time to answer individual questions on here so they very graciously post valuable information on their blogs and websites for people like you and me. If you don't want to take advantage of their efforts you will remain a very ignorant dog owner.

For the time being, having the two puppies together is the best thing you can do for them, because they can both learn behavior (such as bite inhibition) that they should have learnt from their litter mates. Just put the puppies together and see how they get on. Rocky will probably be delighted to have a new "litter mate" after losing his at 4 weeks, and the new puppy should soon start to enjoy his company. However, Rocky will be much bigger than the new puppy so he could easily end up hurting her when he only means to play, so they must be supervised AT ALL TIMES when playing together, and both crated separately when they cannot be supervised. If Rocky gets a little too rough, just tell him no and remove the smaller puppy for a few minutes. He will soon get the idea and learn to play nicely. If the smaller puppy bites and nips too much, just let Rocky correct her.

When the smaller puppy is 10-12 weeks old and nicely behaved, congratulate yourself on having rescued and rehabilitated her, find a new home for her, because rearing two puppies together is something no responsible owner will ever attempt. Don't take my word for it, but that of the experts.
