How to introduce my new puppy to my cats?...?

I have had two cats since they were 6 weeks old for 5 years now. I just purchased a female chocolate lab that I will be picking up in two weeks. Does anyone have any advice or do's and dont's on introducing the cats and puppy to each other?

i would take your puppy around them only when you are in the room to supervise the visit and make sure the cats dont hurt the dog. after a week or so you should be ok to let the puppy roam with the cats and let nature take its course.

With adult cats there isn't too much you can force them to do. It is best to just introduce the puppy in brief visits in a comfortable room where they can be up above - like on the sofa - looking down and observing the dog. When cats interact with puppies, they usually act like the puppy is just insane because of the energy and playing, etc. You can't force the cats to accept the dog, but they definitely will over time. Just be sure to keep them safe and not allow your dog to chase them and after a while everyone will get along fine.

Play with the lab so you get its hair/scent on you. then go home and get the cats used to the smell. your cats should be good when yor doggie arrives!

The way I introduced my puppy to my cat was to hold the cat, and talk in a calm voice with both puppy and cat. I let them sniff each other, and get used to each others presence. Mew was a little skittish, and tried to get away from the puppy at first, but I didn't let her go. If the puppy got a little too excited I would say be nice or be easy and push him away. After Mew was made aware of the new addition I simply let the cat and puppy go about their business, and when they would meet I made sure to tell the puppy to be nice if he started to get rough. Now, about two years later, they are best friends. They play tag, clean each other, and sleep together. I think as long as you let them know the cat is just as important as they are; they will show the cat respect. Also, the cats will be able to show the puppy who is boss; you know what I'm talking about.
The only thing I can say not to do is let the puppy bully the cats. Always make sure the cats feel comfortable. If they don't snatch them up, and hold them and cuddle them in front of the puppy. By putting the cat in a place above the dog you are showing the dog that the cat is dominate over them, and it will help them to calm down. I hope this helps.
