How to introduce my 17 month old cat to my new 8 week old kitten?

I need some advice. I have a 17 month old female house cat (she is a house cat as she is partially sighted). We work in the day and thought it would be nice to get her some company so we have chosen an 8 week old male cat. We are picking him up on Saturday morning, and plan to spend all day saturday, sunday and monday at home setting him in.

We have a small spare bedroom which i want to use as his safe place, with his bed, food and litter tray for when we are out or at night.

How shall i go about introducing them? I dont want me current cat to feel too put out but i also want my new kitten to settle in well.

Can i bring home the kitten in his carry cage, let them both see each other through the bars and then let him out?
