How to introduce a new puppy to our dog and how to avoid jealousy over them?

my black lab is 5 months old and our new puppy is only a month old, a japanese spitz and shih tzu mix. when our black lab saw the puppy last night, he keeps on barking and very unruly and the puppy was shaking so bad..what to do? i want them to be friends, don't want any rivalry or jealousy over them especially for our black lab

both puppies are very young and they will get along very well eventually. there shouldn't be any jealousy if both are given equal share of attention. Plus since are very close age being only months apart training them at the same time can faciliate the process of making them get along

Well when I introduced my puppy to my dog (at the time my dog was 6 years old and my puppy was half a month old) I gave her LOTS of attention and had them play a little bit together when they were in the same room.But then again my dog is pretty calm and didn't really bark or do anything when they first met.
If your 5 month old has ever been aggressive,then put him on a leash and have someone standing by to pick up the puppy in case it lunges.
Was it playful barking or attack barking?If its playful,than let the dog bark and try to soothe the dog,when it calms down try to bring the puppy closer so they can sniff each other.
If its the other kind of barking,than do the same but on a tight leash.

not good to take a pup that young from mom. they should stay with mom for min.6 weeks. 8 weeks is the safest. take her back with mom if you can. be really careful a play lap pup could really hurt the pup unintentionally in play.

Labs in general are sweethearts.
Are you sure that the barking wasn't just excited 'play' barking?
That's usually the case.
A larger dog will only very rarely harm a puppy, and then usually it's an accident.
They often play a bit too rough at first, but soon establish 'the rules'
if allowed to have contact.
