How to introduce a character's age in my book?

So my MC is 15 and she runs into (literally) a boy who is 16. How do I mention that he's 16? The book is from the MC's P.O.V. and I don't think it would be normal for the conversation to go like this:
"Hi, I am 15." I say
"Hello, I am 16." The boy replies.

Haha...so how should I introduce his age?

Personally, I don't see what's wrong with him saying he's 16. I mean, there's nothing weird about asking how old someone is...

Anyway, you don't really need to know his exact age. We can guess he's around her age, that he's a teen, etc.

You could say he appears to be close to her age. Later on you could do something like he's celebrating his 17th birthday soon or he tells her he spent his 16th birthday somewhere cool. There's a way around it.

The reader doesn't need to know their exact age. You can just say he's a teenager, or you can state which grade he is in at school.

She sees the guy's car - "Hey, nice ride"
"Thanks, i had my birthday a month ago, so I got my licence"
"Lucky, I still have to wait till September"
Something like that?

you could make him say something like, "In all my 16 years I have never seen something like that..." or something.
