How to introduce a cat to a dog?

Ive introduced dgs to cats only twice before. This time is proving to be a bit more difficult. I recently got a 5 month old puppy how can I safely introduce her to my 3 cats? I have no cages or anything and like I have before I am going to put the dog on a leash and introduce them one by one but she is very excitable and I would like this to go smoothly. Any tips please? I tried it awhile ago and she kinda looked at the cat like prey... How should I handle that? The one dog in the past was a very small puppy and the other quite a bit older than 5 months, how long should I wait before I trust her with them alone?
