How to flirt after being introduced to a girl?

Ok, so I'm a teenager (17) and I'm looking for basic tips and guidelines for talking to a girl from scratch. I'm going crazy over this girl, she seems nice, funny, and is very attractive. My friends simply think she is just 'ok' but, to me, she is absolutely gorgeous! Anyways I've had a few 'relationships' before but nothing like I would like to have this be like. I am either going to be introduced to her by a friend or will have to approach her myself. I've been introduced to girls before but what usually happens is "hi I'm...." she responds and that's about it and it gets awkward. I'm sort of shy but I wouldn't consider my self as super shy, I'm somewhat in-between. Can you guys give me ideas for what to say in my above scenario? Or for approaching her when she's by herself? Something flirtatious and funny to say would be great; it has seemed to work for me in the past. Oh and Im actually a pretty confident person I'm not afraid of rejection and am happy with my physical and mental standings, but I can just never think of what to say! I hope someone can help, this means a lot to me.
