The man asked for info and I gave it, everyone is free to find there own level of risk. I'm not sure what good repeatedly telling people they can't drive when that is their choice. I drive all the time and other than the regular hassles with the cops, which can happen on foot too, I've had no problems.

As I've said before, it is convenient for me to drive. If you are uncomfortable with driving in Mexico, then don't. But what is with this nanny attitude, "don't drive in TJ", "always use a rubber", "be scared of 1st street because the trannys will mug you". Come on guys, we are adults, and we assume risk by what we do. If you have some real info or experience share it, but repeating these warnings is just tiresome.

Please take this in the spirit it is given, but my advice is to grow a pair.

Yeah, the Leyva has a parking structure and the HDS also has an interior parking area. I probably would use a steering wheel lock but I've never had a problem there.

The easiest way to get there is after you cross get in the left hand lane to Downtown/Revolucion. go straight until you hit Constitucion and go right. Go until you cross coahuila and the Leyva lot will be on your right, or go right on Coahuila and the HDS will be about a block further on your left.
The HDS is $45-50 for single with a fridge and the Leyva is about $27 for a single. The HDS is a bit nicer, you get what you pay for. Neither place will give you any grief about bringing up hookers.

Yes, both are in TJ in the middle of the action, easiest way to get there would be to grab a cab after crossing on foot and tell them where you want to go. There are a few other sleazy hotels in the area but these are the biggest that are in hooker central.

I've stayed at the HDS (Hacienda del Santiago) and the Leyva, never had a problem with my car in those lots, I usually park in the Leyva lot when I day trip and find it safe and convenient. If going for more than a quickie I would get a room at one of the aforementioned hotels. Or if you prefer there are nicer areas to stay in, but these two will put you right in the action.

Poohce did a great job of giving a quick overview of stuff to do. I think if you want to take in the color of TJ and can make your own fun then two days would be fine. The food is great, as far as travel, I like to take my bicycle with and cruise Revo, ride through the plazas, etc. If you just want to bang you might get bored after a while and the hawkers in the tourist areas will wear you down.

If you do stay in TJ I recommend getting out of the Zona and away from Revolucion, visit the Zona Rio, Plaza Fiesta, see a movie. There really are much more pleasant parts of TJ.

For a day trip you could park on the US side. The cheapest lot is the Gateway Motel next to Jack in the Box, last time I parked there was $4. You can cross on foot and get a cab for $5.

if you wander around Tijuana looking for cool stuff to see you may get trama/drama... even San Ysidro on the US side is AUTO THEFT #1 in the US. Go over stay as long as you want in the Zona, but even Revolution Ave vicinity is spotty at night fo single gringos. Just take a $5 taxi to and from the Zone and you will be a happy camper...get $12 bottle of Kallua liquor on the way back over the border- never ask a cop- ANYTHING... Spike

There is alot to do in TJ and San Diego. I t depends on what you like to do. The Zona is fine its much like Kings Crossing in Sydney. You could hold up in Adelitas all day and have a fine time. You may get tired of the Tuba music. The Zona de Rio has shopping and movies. (Most movies in English with Spanish subtitles, excepted animated movies) The Cultural center is very interesting. I can send you a list of Restaurant in TJ and San Diego if you let me know what you palate preferences are. Plaza Zapato has several restaurants and night clubs, usually hopping on the weekend. The Avenida de Heros (pronounced Aeroways ) has some spectacular statutes. ( The one of Linclon is the finest I have ever seen outside of Washington).

In TJ all the tourist like to walk on Revolution , One street over is Constitution. You get more of a real flavor for Mexican living.

A trolley ride into SD you can go to the Zoo well worth seeing, Hang out in Balboa Park. 5th Ave as a multitude of restauarants and clubs. Several of the Irish Pubs feature Blues. You can take the train up from SD to Disneyland and get to see some of our beautiful coast.

you could easily spend a week in San Diego/TJ and not see half. But if getting your pipes clean two days probably is plenty, its nice but its no BKK.

No, it's on the U.S. side of the border crossing. The neighborhood is called San Ysidro. It's actually a community of the City of San Diego.

There are several decent hotels in TJ. (There are several not-so-decent in TJ, too.)

balto1- when I go I usually stay at the travelodge hotel in san ysidro and I have not had any problems with my rentals. I feel that two nights is good. Some guys are overwhelmed during their first trip to tj and they need at least one night to adjust and design a good mongering plan!

If your a baseball fan and if your going to TJ in the Spring/Summer I'd go for two days and check out the SD Padres if they are in town during your stay...You can even leave your overnight bag at Guest services and pick it up after the game...If you do go use the trolley as parking is pricey.

when i uesd to drive over the border i parked at both hotels it was all good but the hacienda has a real small parking lot if they don't have any more parking spots they may have you park at the leyva both hotels have the same owner

Safe is a relative term when dicussing various areas of La Zona.

When I drive in, I tend to stay at either the Leyva, or the Hacienda de Santiago. Both are located in LZ. Both offer free parking for one car if you rent an overnight room.

Stay in San Diego- maybe San Ysidro right on the border, Motel 6 $47 . Be a "Border Jumper" once or 2 times a day! You can do your sight seeing in San Diego and your thrills in TJ. Your right...there is not alot else to do there . Crossing back and forth is easy except on weekend and Holidays. Make sure to post you expeience here...buena surte.. SPIKE
