My roommate bought an Abyssinian kitten a while ago. He was finally ready to leave the breeder and he came home on December 26, 2009. He was about 3 months old then. We have no other pets and I was wondering how long it would take for the kitten to settle in because I would like to adopt a dog as well. How long should we give the kitten before introducing another member into the household? Also, if we do get a dog, how should we go about introducing it to the kitten? I've been doing a little research on the topic and I found these websites to be informative.

Finally, just to give a bit more information , Oliver (the kitty) is neutered and his front paws have been de-clawed. As for temperament, he's very affectionate around people. He's always purring and loves being in the company of people. Anyone who's at home will do for him. But it's safe to say he's more attached to my roommate than me. Not surprising, considering she's the one who feeds him.
We live in a two floor condo style apartment and the kitten's litter box, food bowls and bed are in my roommate's room upstairs. When we get the dog, his/her bowl will be downstairs and his/her bed will be in my room. Also, the dog will never have access to the upstairs. Likewise, the kitten will not have access to my room. The rest of the house, will be fair grounds for both animals but at the end of the day, they have their own personal areas to themselves. I heard this little bit of separation is a good idea. What do you think?
