How is the process of introducing a new older kitten to a younger existing kitten?

I have a 11 week old kitten who has been with us for about 5 days now and we recently got another kitten that is 5 months old. Some one was in need of giving it up and since we've been looking for a playmate for out kitten we decided to take it. They are both males. The 5 month old is already neutered and we are going to get the 11 week old neutered soon.
Did i make the mistake of getting a kitten that was older than the existing kitten?
I have been reading and following the instructions how to introduce new cats to the existing cats but i was wondering if there were any suggestions to my situation.
