How do you introduce yourself to friends when you're pre-transition?

I'm most likely changing schools soon. So I need to make some new buddies.. If I make any at all, I don't like friendship much.

So, anyway, I don't know how to introduce myself. Preferred name? Birth name? I pass as a teenage boy, albeit typically prepubescent due to my stature and voice, but don't teachers do a role call?
Plus, I'd hate for my friends to learn my birth name later on if I passed my preferred name as my legal name.

Eh.. Maybe I should tell them my birth name and later tell them to call me my preferred name?

I think you're probably going to be more comfortable making friends if you introduce yourself with the name you're comfortable with.

As for roll call, you could talk to the teachers before class and say something like "my name is _____ on the attendance sheet, but i actually prefer to go by ______."
