How do you go about introducing a female bullmastiff to a a male bullmastiff?

We have scooby a male bullmastiff since he was a puppy he is now 4 as you prob know they are a fiercely loyal dominant dog for some unknown reason we decided to get a female that we have now fallen in love with and they are not getting along at all so much so we can't leave them off and have only introduced them on leads scooby is very jealous when we pay her any attention when trying to introduce them on the lead also he keeps on trying to mount her and as she is not in heat she snaps at him and then he snaps at her please please please help !!!!

Not to sound harsh, but knowing that Scooby (male) is a "fiercely loyal dominant dog" why did you not do a trial meeting with the two off property PRIOR to bringing her into your home and getting attached. Introduction is so important. You do not mention her age, if she is a pup, had a previous owner, if she was with other dogs, etc. This may have been an existing problem with her or another male was a problem in her previous home. It appears that you need to socialize and train two dogs now, as well as spay and neuter them both.

That said, until you undo what you have done with the male, socialize and train the two, you most likely will continue to have problems. And even then they may never accept each other and you will spend your time keeping them separated or eventually re-home one when it gets unmanageable. But all you can do now is try. But I strongly suggest if your life style does not afford you to keep a watchful eye on the two and do not have the means to set up your home for them to be separated comfortably, return the bitch to the previous owner/breeder now! When you enroll in obedience classes or have a private trainer come to your home explain the situation and have him work with you on the introduction of the two.

The mounting is a dominance thing not sexual and she may have been the dominant dog in her previous situation.

Your best bet is to get both dogs fixed.

If you are planning on Back Yard Breeding these dogs, just don't! You don't even know enough about dogs or that breed specifically. You don't even know how to introduce them.

Educate your selves. Don't be dumb & ignorant, KNOW what you are doing.

Your dogs are the product of other BYBers & are of low quality. When you breed junk to junk you get junk.

Her snapping at him is normal. He is attempting to violate or dominate her & she ain't having any of it.

When you feel fear of a fight the dogs smell that hormone & will react because of you. Control your fears so you do not produce the hormone.

Look at all the health issues. You need to have two dogs that are not predisposed to these ailments.

Bullmastiffs are ONLY fiercely loyal dominant dogs IF you allow them to be, which obviously you have. This is exactly what you shouldn't allow for any of the large molosser breeds, and no, he really shouldn't be like this when introducing a female. Another male, maybe, but not a female.

I'm afraid Scooby needs some manners and socialisation training - and quickly.

Google NILIF and treat Scooby with this training method if you want to solve this. Then take them both out into neutral territory and walk them. Make sure if you keep this b*tch that she is spayed, and he is neutered (sounds like he needs it anyway)... If he has attitude then you shouldn't breed from him anyway, and you have LOADS to do before even thinking of that such as hip / elbow scores etc etc.

You might have to accept the fact that they may not be a suitable match for one another. he may never appreciate the fact that you have brought another dog into his house.

You could continue to try these short brief meeting on the leash. Do not do it in his territory. Take them somewhere where there are not a lot of dogs or people around. Bring tons of treats. When they meet, continue to hand them both treats out of your hand. Never throw them onto the ground. Continue to do this until they have calmed down a bit and they can properly meet one another.

You may need a professional for this. And I am going to warn you, it will take time. He is not accepting her into his home at all.

As for the mounting, it is not sexual at all. He is mounting her to get his scent on her, to dominate her. They are not getting along because she is not submissive to him. When he mounts her, she turns and snaps. They are competing for dominance which leads me to believe that they are not a match for each other.
