How do I introduce myself to this girl?

Alright so there is a girl i see almost everyday on the way to hang out with my friends. I think she is pretty cute. Im the kind of guy that sits in the back of the classroom and i do all my work and keep to myself, but i am perfectly normal and have lots of friends outside of class. Im most certainly not popular and i am not great looking (but could be WAY worse). I want to introduce myself to her somehow but i dont know how. All i know is her name and that she runs cross country and track. I dont want to come across as creepy or anything for knowing those two things so there for I have nothing in common with her (at least not that i know of). I want to come across as the nice and caring guy that i am but i can be kind of different when im around a new person (not on purpose of course). Anyway i just dont know how to introduce myself without seeming creepy. she most likely doesnt know me but last year i dated somebody on the cross country and track team so she might recognize my face (i doubt it though). PLEASE HELP ME!

Join the track team, if possible, and you can start by being friends with her.
If you can't join, then make detours to your classes and maybe "accidently" bump into her, and be like, "oh hey! I know you, you're (insert name here) from the track team!". And then of course she will ask you how you knew (make something up here, don't mention the name of the girl you dated just yet, in case they're friends) , and you can go from there.
Just act normal, and I'm sure if it's supposed to happen, it will happen.

Is she ever walking with somebody? Are you ever walking with somebody? See if you can make it so you're both walking alone...Then walk over and say, "Oh, hey, you looked kind of lonely, walking by yourself." Or something like that. Then just strike up conversation.
