How do I introduce a "lovey" to my baby?

My nine month old daughter has many toys that she plays with, but she doesn't have any one particular "comfort" toy or lovey. She seems to prefer hard plastic toys to plush, but even so none of her toys holds her attention for very long. I'd like her to have a soft toy that she loves, that she can sleep with, but I don't know how to introduce one so that she "loves" it. I'm interested in doing this now, because we're going on a trip in a couple of weeks where there'll be a lot of travel and strangers, and I feel that it would be best for her if she had a comfort toy. Is it possible to force this, or should I just let it be and wait for her to choose her own lovey?
 
She'll find her own "lovey" or she won't. You can't control it or force it.

Of my 3 kids, only one had a special toy. The other two never developed an attachment to one special toy. And, actually it's easier when they DON'T have that attachment. Imagine that you're on a trip with your 3 year old and you realize that, oops, you left Bunny at home. Your child is inconsolable, insisting that you go back and get Bunny, even though he is miles and miles away. Yep, that happened with our oldest boy and believe me, it isn't fun.
