How do I introduce a lovey (security item) to my baby?

She just turned one, use to nurse to sleep but now that she's no longer falling asleep while nursing I wanted to introduce a lovey of some sort that would gradually replace nursing.
I realize I should have introduced the item back when she would fall asleep nursing.
Is it too late?
Or do kids just get attached to something on their own/ can't be forced?

Thank you. I would just love her to have a stuffed animal or blankie that she finds comforting to help her fall asleep. Is a one year old still too young for this?

It isn't too late. She may already have one that you don't realize (a favorite blanket, doll or stuffed animal). You might also start reading a bedtime story to her while she is nursing. Once you stop the nursing you can still cuddle with her for the bed time story
