I have had my female chinchilla in a bird cage for a year now and I thought that I would get her a friend. I figured a male would be better to introduce to her than a female. He's really shy and submissive. I introduced them in neutral territory and they had no scuffles, even though she kept trying to nibble at him. I have left them in separate cages overnight and there were also no probs. I let them out again today in the same neutral territory but I want him to go in the bird cage with her. I put him into her cage whilst she was out and then after 10 mins I put her back in, to find she wasn't too bothered until he came near her. She took some fur out of him and it looked like she was mounting him and he got really stressed so I put him back in his little cage.
Can anyone suggest anything for me to do? Cheers.
