Help with computer build (Newbie)?

I plugged up everything and it says Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected device and press a key.....I put the operating system in and select run off cd still says the same thing what could be my problem?
P.S. The operating system might be a torrent i got it from a friend but i know it works cus i tried it on my desktop.

1. Hard to tell with a torrent because they are bootlegged and illegal... never seen a torrent work flawlessly.

2. in BIOS you need to make sure your devices are listed under the "boot devices" for them to be bootable.

3. If they are listed and your PC is looking for a boot device during POST and checks the CD ROM for a BOOT Cd but says it isn't, something is wrong with the software because BIOS isn't recognizing it as having a boot sector.

You could maybe try to make a basic boot disk or bootable flash drive with your other PC and see if it Boots to DOS. That should tell you for sure if it's your build or your software. Your PC Should boot into DOS with a bootable CD, DVD or Flash drive.

Do a quick format and select the "Create MS DOS Start-up Disk" check box to make it bootable.

Maybe it's a 64bit OS on a 32bit machine?

If that's not the case, tell him to pirate another DVD.
