This isn't entirely true.
You probably have to wait two weeks for an appointment at most GUM clinics, but all of them also have a 'walk-in' where you can just show up and wait. So in theory you can go tomorrow and get seen. Granted you may have to wait hours in a queue, but eventually someone will see you.
The way to get seen quickly is to get there early. A clinic that starts seeing people at 9.00am, will actually open its doors much earlier, so to reduce the wait, get there when the doors open.
One thing to bear in mind is that it takes two weeks from the time of infection to detect an STD, although the incubation for AIDS is a whopping three months.
