The only clandestine border crossing I ever attempted was from Costa in to Panama, but we backed out a couple of km's from making it there.

I was actually running to TJ one time cause I was late meeting a chica. I got stopped by the Mexico authourites mear McDonalds as soon as I crossed. I was honest as to why I was in a hurry. Let me go, no probs.

I cross just about every evening between 6-8pm and the way FB said it is the way I always see it just 1 cop just standing around and sometimes I don't see a cop at all.Maybe because its getting darker early more cops are going to be out there.

I normally only cross once or twice a month, but these last two weeks have found myself crossing multiple times. I normally don't cross in the evening.

And I always talk to the taxis about the police, calling them bandits with a license and the bike cops "moto ratons".....The taxis are always in agreement with me....Some folks really post some crazy shit that just doesn't make sense.

Wont try anything alone ( like most punks) but in groups watch out. Particularly when you are solo... I may bring a box of donuts and throw the other way when I run to the border crossing . I think the US border personel are sypathetic to the shake down shit... NEVER talk shitz to the taxi driver about the Mexican Cops----one time this old piece of shitz taxi driver sicced the Sentry Cops on ME !

How often do you cross Sampson? I go to TJ about every two weeks or so, usually on a weekday, and I come back at night, between 11PM and about 2AM when I go.

And I think we are mainly concerned about nights, as that's when the TJ cops shake downs usually happens. In the days the pedestrian lines are long, and there are many people, and we just don't hear about shakedowns during the days, but the nights are a different story.

Before there use to see between 3 and 5 TJ cops hanging around the taxi drop off point, and one time I seen as many as 10 TJ cops stopping mostly gringos asking them questions. I myself have never been stopped there, also many guys say they are never stopped, others say they are stopped all the time. ( with these guys I think the TJ cops can smell fear?)

Lately like I said the last 6 months or so, I see no TJ cops at night, and if I see any cops it's usually one who is just standing around, and doesn't appear to be shaking anybody down. Also there hasn't been any reports on these prostitution sties about shakedowns in that area, although there are a few in other places.

In the recent past, this is the area that concerned the mongers the most as if you were going to get stopped by a TJ cop it would happen right after the taxi dropped you off. Most guys just got stopped and questioned, but let go, but even that most mongers hated, saying OMG they stopped me! I guess a few guys got squeezed to with TJ cops telling them they are drunk, have illegal or legal prescription drugs or something they made up. ( some of these guys were drunk and had illegal drugs on them too)

Since the TJ cops have almost disappeared from this area, I say TJ is safer than ever as far as mongering is concerned at least in regards to shakedowns.

The sentri is a good place for the police as if they were not there rateros would be. Some guys are so afraid of the police, they don't understand how dangerous it would be without them. Some even walk over that unlighted pedestrian bridge late at night to avoid the police
