???I recently received a call from a gentleman in NYC requesting a Integrated massage with many modalities for his mother who is a bodyworker as a thank you for all the bodywork she has given him as he has grown up.  In addition he also wanted a session for him and another for his girl friend.  However, he said that they all 3 wanted to be in the same room at the same time even though only one person would be getting massage at one time, so they could enjoy the energy.I personally have not (other than a parent and child situation) had anyone else in the treatment room.  I told him this, and my room really is not big enough to have two other people in it while I am working (1 is almost too much when it is a child I am working on)  However, he insisted that they wanted to come to see me. There is a Holistic Fair going on when they are going to be here in Colorado.  So what are your thoughts? ???

Group Energy

I had a watsu at Harbin Hot Springs in a pool with about 10 other people. It was very intense. I don't know whether the others were tuned in to what I was involved in, but there was a really nice feeling of being surrounded by friendly energy that added to the experience. I am in school for massage now. Our technique class takes place in a large room with roughly 14 people, half of whom are giving and half receiving massage. When everyone is into it, there is a nice energy in the room. It gets tricky when one or two are not, though. You can definitely feel it.Space is another whole consideration. If you can't work comfortably with others in the room, that seems like a real problem. Are you interested in pursuing it? If so, maybe there's a larger space you can relocate to?

Group energy is a great thing.  The mother is a bodyworker herself, so she understands the energy.  It is great for multiple pairs of hands to be working when you are doing energy work.  Have you trained for any energy work yourself?

I am a Reiki 1 practtioner and getting ready for Reiki 2.   Although, I am told I have a gift I still feel like a baby in this area.

Lots of people *working* in a space together is one thing.  People *spectating* while I'm trying to work is another.  There's too much conversation, I'm the only one doing a job so it ends up feeling kind of servant-like, and space is a very important consideration.  I don't work this way and would not do it.  This is just my preference.  Also -- do the other 2 also want this group experience, or just him?

I agree with you.  I use to work in a spa where we two therapists would work on a couple in the same room.  However, there was one therapist that would always just throw the energy bouncing everywhere!  Sometimes people would come out feeling sick after one of her sessions.

Yes, the other two do want massages to.  Basically they want me to book out an afternoon and do three integrated massages while all three remain in the room the entire time.

Based on the request, I can't imagine the others would be sitting around gabbing. Maybe if you were to follow through, you could make that a requirement, that there be no talking while sessions are under way. If someone needed to talk or just take a break they could go to another room or outside...Similarly, the energy connection they are looking for indicates to me that there is a common interest to contribute to the flow rather than obstruct it.It sounds like it could be a great experience. I might have to try something like this myself!

i have a different take on this.as a mobile therapist, i go into situations where i cannot control who is or is not is the home, office, or resort.i understand that you are concerned with giving a quality service without compromising your work.these folks seem to be 'attuned' to group energy; i wouldn't think they would be disrespectful to the service.as a businessperson, i would not let this opportunity go by. i would try to accommodate them by offering a housecall~ this would deflect the space issue and you may be able to ask more for the travel fee if you son't normally offer mobile service.this can be a win-win for everyone.my .02
