Google Hangouts / Facebook Video Chat Swapping Problems?

Why is it that when I use Facebook Video Chat then switch over to Google Hangouts (or vice versa) the second program always thinks I don't have a camera? The same thing would happen between Skype and iChat - even after I close the first program.

What am I doing wrong? It's really annoying for when I want to have two networks open and available to talk in (but obviously not talking on video in both at the same time).

FYI - I have last years MacBook Pro and I'm running 10.6.7

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
