Then we also get the other stories that the TJ cops up the chain of command order the rank and file lowly TJ cop to go out and rob gringos and locals alike during Christmas, because they have to do Christmas shopping for the family. Typical big conspiracy theory.

While these camp fire stories certainly sound plausible except for the one about all TJ cops being replaced, as maybe just the leadership of the police are replaced? We do know there is police shakedowns in Tijuana, and no doubt some TJ police feel a little bit more pressure to rob tourist during the Christmas season. What we don't know if it's a conspiracy with orders from the top, or just TJ cops taking advaneforum.xxxe of a situation before him like a drunk Gringo who has lot of cash.

What these 'conspiracy theorist' lack is evidence, as they don't provide one bit of evidence as it's all speculative and conjectural, based on perhaps what some drunk Mexican told them in a bar and they then took it as fact? Even the anecdotal evidence of police shakedowns during Christmas season is weak, as I doubt anybody could show that police shakedown reports are more frequent during Christmas, and I seriously doubt we will see an increase in police shakedown reports on these forums now till what does Burt say? Three Kings day?

But hey if you want to be scared about these ghost stories that's your call. Personally I'll continue to visit TJ and seriously doubt there will be stepped up activity for police shakedowns, nor do I expect to be shaken down anytime soon?

On another board I started a thread entitled "Political Instability Emblodens TJ Cops." A new mayor (from a different political party--the PAN, not the PRI) takes office December 1st. At that time many cops, especially the senior ones, will lose their jobs. Right now all the cops want to build a nest egg--and they're suceeding based upon what's being posted on the boards.

It will take a little while after the new administration is in power to appoint new leaders and gain control. Also, the Christmas holiday season is always bad time for a tourist to encounter a cop in Tijuana. I expect major problems to continue until after the holidays end on Three Kings Day (January 6th).

lol...believe me that same thought went through my own mind a hundred times standing in the police station. I guess that I was so focused on the other details, excitement, safety, not being ripped off by the pimps or locals, blending in, hooking up....so on so forth that I let that little tid bit fall through the cracks. Honestly, I still can't believe that I made that mistake because I knew better. Getting older's hell.

first time poster, Long time member. thanks for all the good info.now for my story. Went to TJ tonight, got talked into by a cab driver to skip Zona and go to a Strip Club on revalution. It was higher price than Vegas. Started walking down Revalution and found a nice massage place called cheaters. Highly recommend. got a pretty girl named Funny. 80 out the door would return every day if possible. Started to walk towards the zona and got rolled by cops for 200. 80 + 200 makes for a long night. Did not follow the rules and it is my fault. Donot walk alone. Just spreading the info, once again thanks for all the good info.

GT2driver, Thanks for a well written detailed post. I am glad the info helped you, but I fail to understand you still did what was not advisable to do, that is taking pictures right in front of the policestation and the alley street. You could have saved yourself that ordeal.

I'm sure glad that I read the TJ postings and learned the do's and don't's while visiting! Since I had a couple of free days in LA before doing a contract job, I was toying with the idea of going to TJ and check out the mongering. After reading the postings and a few e-mails back and forth I decided to do it. After driving to the last parking before crossing the border I decided to visit the large malls there to buy a pair of jeans and a t-shirt to blend in better. I changed in the car, took off my watch and ring, put $200 in my sock under my shoe. It felt like high school. I put a $100 in my wallet and picked up a deposable camera and rubbers. As suggested, I took a taxi to the zona and glad I did...it would be one hell of a walk! When I arrived it was great! Bands playing, street vendors, lots of color and festivities, but no one really bugging me to buy. Lots of good looking hard bodied chicks everywhere! I did the tourist thing and took lots of pictures, sampled the food and just enjoyed the atmosphere. I decided to check out some of the bars that had been suggested to try and hook up. As I started searching I came to an area where street walkers were everywhere. As I would go by they would try and make eye contact or smile to attract attention to themselves. I pulled out my wallet, cigarettes and matches, but managed to reach around the last condom pack in my pants pockets without drawing attention. They asked me if that was all that I had and I answered yes. They questioned more, then asked me to count out my money. I counted $48 dollars and they laughed. They went through my wallet looking for drugs or extra cash...but nothing. Meanwhile, two other cops brought back another man into the back and started shouting at him. They then proceeded to work him over pretty good. At first I thought that this was some type of intimidation tactic for my benefit, but soon figured out that this was not the case. They beat the hell out of him. Another guy lay in a mess on the floor. I hadn't noticed him at first because he was in such a tight fetal position. The blood on his clothes told his story. After being questioned and searched Chris came back into the room. he told me that a girl from the streets had filed a complaint about taking her picture. I asked to see her and Chris told me that she was coming. When the girl arrived, she pointed to me and said I took a picture of her directly. Chis said that the girls were highly aware of foreiners taking their picture and posting them on the internet. Now it made more sense to me, but I was not swayed or shaken in the least. I smiled big and told the detective that I wouldn't have taken a picture of her and that he wouldn't either! He translated to the other police standing there and they all laughted. At that time I told them, come on guys...I haven't done anything wrong, that this arrest wasn't right and that they knew it. I asked to see a magistrate or a judge, because I knew a reasonable man would see clearly that I had done nothing wrong. Chis said that he would take me to a judge, but that the girl was still making a complaint and that pictues weren't allowed. I was told that the fine for taking pictures was $80 dollars. I laughed and told him that all I had was $48 bucks and needed that to get back to LA. I asked how was I to know? There were no signs posted not to take pictures. Chris spoke to the two cops that had searched me and they all begin to laugh together. They probably had more than I did in their pockets from shaking down Americans that day alone. Finally, he patted me on my back and said that I could go. Looking around I said, hey! I'll give you $20 bucks to get a picture of me and you guys together in front of the holding cell! Chris translated and said, man...you really are a tourist! He wouldn't do the picture, but told me to have a nice day. All in all a pretty nice day. I hooked up with some sweet pussy, got a hell of a blow job and got a good story to tell.
