Friday is my first day!

I've been lurking on this forum for quite some time. It has helped me a lot!  I start school on Friday and am excited...and a bit nervous...okay, scared to death! I just want to get the day over with, and then I'll be okay.  I already know that on our first day, we'll have an orientation, then to break the ice, we jump right into massage.  Which means, on my FIRST day of school, I'll be laying nakey on a table with a bunch of strangers LOL It's not like I have hang ups about my body, but this is a strange situation for me.  My biggest fear is that when it comes time, I won't feel comfortable. Ya know...suddenly my class is a bunch of Mean Girls and Jocks and I'm back in the 8th grade! LOL  Anyways...I just wanted to introduce myself, and share my "new student" experiences for any that are interested.  Anything you can say to help allay my fears will be most appreciated (e.g. Mean Girls aren't allowed in massage schools)

Friday is my first day!

Hi and welcome! It's always nice to see "lurkers" become active members. Our first day of class we did massage, but it was fully clothed. They introduced it this way to help those with body image issues get accustomed to being around each other first. It worked out quite well.And I don't think there's a mean soul in our class. Not that they don't exist in massage schools, but I suspect the majority of people getting into bodywork are caring individuals...you need that to be able to do this work well.

Friday is my first day!

my first day at massage school we did massage with our clothes on then like 15 days later we were doing massage with out our clothes i think thats was enought time to get to know the people that were in ur class. u get use to it dont worry.

Today was my 1st day. We did a few bonding exercises, went over all the criculum for the 1st term and basically got to know each other better. However we had already done a required weekend that was all massage. So I know what ya mean. Suddenly you are in a very vulnerable situation with people you don't know at all. Also we got  a good deal of reading homework and practice at home homework.  We have to have 4 hrs of at home practice by the 17th. The reading doesn't worry me but I am a bit nervous to dive right in on the massage part. Anyways try not to worry to much and just remember everyone else probaly has some doubts too. What an adventure we are off on. I feel really tired tonight and think I will crash early!

Good luck with your first day.  Don't forget.....everyone else is probably just as nervous as you are.  Usually, your first hands on experience will be clothed.  We were sort of gradual about it, taking things off as you felt more comfortable.  After all, no need to be completely nude to do massage on the neck and shoulders or the arms and hands.  Don't worry, it will not take long before you all feel like family.Good luck!

Thank you all for the kind words and warm welcome.  I'm less nervous than I expected to be (thanks to lurking here!).   I've already been told that yes, on our very first day, we disrobe to our underwear (of course, in a private area; our modesty is respected) and partner up to do a casual massage. Of course, none of us will know what we are doing but I think it's a way to break the ice, and to get us used to getting on and off the table wrapped up in our towel, and learn how to unwrap ourselves while on the table w/o full exposure. At least I know that whatever I'm feeling, others will be feeling it too! lol  I'll let you know how my first day goes!

I survived my first day!

Update:
My first day of school went great. Sure I was really nervous, but I sensed that everyone else was too! lol My classmates are all so different from another and seem nice and friendly. After orientation from the principal, and then some lecture from the Hands-on teacher, we had a very informal "fluff and buff" full body massage session. It's strange to get half naked your first day, but it was comforting that everyone felt awkward about it. After changing in the restroom, wrapping into my towel, I was pleasantly surprised how the classroom looked when I entered. The lights were dimmed, soft music was playing,...and I was no longer nervous. Everyone seemed to be so protective of their partners; the old adage "treat others as you would like to be treated" comes to mind. I'm overweight, so I was really nervous about all of this. I'm happy to review that there was nothing to be worried about!

Congrats on your first day! As it's been said, we're all on a great adventure (for both ourselves and our future 'experiments' as we learn). Just wait, pretty soon, you'll be taking your clothes off while on the table safely covered with a sheet (better get high-count cotton sheets). I won't tell you to have fun because you will have a lot of fun (and a lot of work). And yes, you will definitely get over the hump of 'Oh MG! How am I going to do a FULL ONE-HOUR MASSAGE!?!'.

Thanks Gaspen! I have read where others change right on the table under sheets, but our school doesn't do it that way. We always get undressed in the restroom. Which is good for me cuz I have noooooooo idea how one masters that trick LOL
