Essential Oils used in Thai Massage

Hello everyone

If anyone can help, I am trying to find out if the blend of base and essential oils used in Thai massage is particular to that massage. My husband and I have just returned from Thailand (our first time) and we had a Thai massage whilst we were there. The oils that were used were absolutely wonderful - the aromas just divine. I have not yet done aromatherapy (plan to study this next year) so have no training in mixing oils yet. Just wondered if anyone could help, or point me in the right direction.

Are you sure you had a Traditional Thai Massage? I am a Thai Massage Therapist, trained in Thailand and it is traditionally done with clothes on and no oil. Best way to tell is if this was a relaxing, soothing massage where there was lots of effleurage and no twisting and turning into yoga positions, this was not Thai Massage.

There are some great spa's out in Thailand offering some fantastic treatments, but as Angel fish has already said Tradtional Thai Massage is fully clothed and to try to describe it... is more like passive Yoga and accupressure, so perhaps this was something different? sounds heavenly all the same!

I have struggled to find oils which remind me of Thailand, you have to look at the indigenous flowers. Mainly lotus (which is a really expensive essential oil), orchid and carnation (which are fragrances).

i have used lemongrass, sandalwood and ginger to recreate a blend for a client who raved about his "thai "massage and it did the trick wonderfully!!!!

Hi Angelfish - actually, not sure that this traditional Thai massage - it was at the hotel, and I am sure massage is modified for western visitors - nevertheless, the blend of oils used was delightful. The massage itself - well it was certainly deeper than I have ever experienced before and there was lots of stretching and deep kneading - it was almost painful, but just when you thought you could not bear it, the therapist stopped and moved to another area. The whole thing was a wonderful experience - was curiuos about the oils as it made the whole thing sublime.
