essential oils task

can anyone help me with the answer or meaning to these questions pls pls pls?
1)EXPLAIN THE BOTANICAL SYSTEM FOR IDENTIFYING THE PLANTS FROM WHICH ESSENTIAL AND CARRIER OILS ARE OBTAINED?
2) WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE, APART FROM LENGH OF TIME HAS AN EFFECT ON THE BODY, BETWEEN TOP, MIDDLE AND BASE NOTES? (don't even understand the question)
pls help me i'm really behind had a very sever chest infection 4 the past 3+ wks and need to get work done got all the rest except these 2

Top, middle and base notes is a perfumery expression to describe where a scent fits.

Top notes evaporate the fastest followed by middle then base.

I can't think of any way this would affect the body, other than an effect from their aroma.

Top notes are usually the citrus ones, orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit etc. They are uplifting oils and so are up the top! These tend to give a quick burst but do not last that long. However bottom notes, base notes are those whose fragrance often lasts longer and has a longer effect on the body,eg so may start working when the client goes home after a massage.

It is always a good idea to have a mix of top, middle and bottom notes in a blend to treat someone. I would google them there is loads of info out there, google a essential oil and it will probably tell you what note it is and its therapeutic properties. Most outlets that sell essential oils and carriers will have information on their products online so that is a good place to start.

Hi colltom, it sounds like you are having a struggle with your course and it might be worth speaking to your tutors.

They should be able to offer you the support you need.

I could probably answer your questions but I feel that just giving you the answers is not helpful to the learning process.

What tips I will give are...

The first question relates to the botanical family that oils come from, if you look at the latin names the family name often gives an idea to that oils effects (though not always the exact same) e.g the mint family are all from the family Lamiaceae or Labiatae (depending on what the botanists are saying these days...it changes and you should know what family name is in current favour. This is a major problem when studying herbalism as I am just now as the family name sometimes changes). However, looking at the properties of the Lamiaceae/Labiatae family will show that the individual plants have similar properties. Check them all out, I have only given one example here.

The second question would, I think, relate to the effect i.e top notes being uplifting (and more than that, but as I said I don't want to give you all the answers you have to do the work here) whilst base notes tend to be sedative (and everything else they are). How you would mix your oils depends on the effect you are trying to achieve. This is extremely important as it is not just obout the aroma or the length it lasts on the body and I think it is an excellent question to be asked as it really make you think about what effect you want to have for your client.

I think you may have to do some heavy duty reading as this knowledge is important to becoming an aromatherapist.

If you are feeling overwhelmed then take a deep breath and do one bit at a time, don't look at the big deal, break it down to small achievable tasks.

got the 2nd question thanks it didnt make sence at 1st the 1st question i still don't get the tutor said we don't have to do essay answers but i dont understand it at all looked on ask.com and googled and apart from identifying all plants don't no wot to do am i thick or sumthing getting sooo frustrated and the temp tutor offers no support even complained to no avail i desperately don't wanna fail pls help
