appears to have made improvements in their design since the model that was used at our school.

I don't know the name of the model, but it had a strange set up/take down that required removing the seat and re-attaching it at a different place on the support beam. I smashed my finger while doing a mandatory demonstration of this chair for the teacher .

Once set up, it's a user-friendly chair in terms of adjustments and client comfort.

I worked side by side with a lady who used the Earthlite and I must say it is a beautiful chair. She even worked on me, on it. And, it was very comfortable. It has a few more plastic parts than I prefer. I do recall the Earthlite has a little "spring" to the chair which the Stronglite did not, so that when I was working on her (we swaped out so I could get a feel for it too), on her chair, the chair sort of gave a little under my pressure so that pressure on the back, caused the body to sort of spring along. It was a little uncomfortable feeling to work that way, just because I am used to no movement, but I think it may be nice to the client as a gentle "rocking".

I have been using the Avilla 2 chair for about six months now.
I used it for my 20-hour student "externship" project. While it is easy to set up and adjust, the "spring" felt more like a less-than-bomb-proof locking function than an engineered feature. It gave a couple of creaks and resulted in unintentional shift when I applied pressure certain ways.
Overall, I do like the chair for its easy set-up and adjustment.
Plus, the face rest ROCKS!

Anybody use the Vortex?

I'm looking to purchase a chair, and the light weight of it and overall design look good to me, but I'd love to hear some opinions

i was at a chair massage CEU yesterday brushing up on a topic that wasn't well-covered in the school i attended. one of the participants brought in their avila ii that they've owned since 2004 or so. they stated that when they first got it they had to watch portions of the video in slow motion to fully grasp the method of adjusting parts of it, but once accomplished it was no issue.

our instructor indicated that the high-tech plastic used has flex to it. i gave and received in it and found it to be very comfy for both. it did creak some. the chair's owner indicated that he sometimes felt it seemed unstable just because of the flex; the instructor stated that putting a foot on one of the chair legs on mounting/dismounting helps alleviate that sensation in any chair. it has a little spot for using aromatherapy. on that model the seat can be dropped out of the way to accomodate stroke survivors, hip/knee replacement candidates, and many others with being able to get onto the chair then the seat is lifted back up for them to sit down. it was also demonstrated how it can be adjusted to fit young children which is of interest to me.

however, i don't recall if there was any adjustment for therapist height like with the portal pro 3 (which was also available yesterday and i'll post about that one in the appropriate thread). i'm on the shorter side of the ruler. we did compare chair stances though and the width of the avila II and the portal pro 3 are the same.

if the owner of yesterday's avila II contacts me i'll pass this thread along so they can make their comments as well. it folded down more compactly than any other chair i've seen.

I have an older Earthlite and I love it. I wish I could remember the model, but they don't make it anymore.

I just ordered the Avila II from my school yesterday during a showing/demo. I sat in it and let the guy show me its capabilities and all I could think "it's mine I gotta have it"

But I must say the adjustments seem like it will be a challenge to work with so I will DEFINITELY be spending time practicing getting the levers right with different heights. (Lucky for me I have family and friends ranging from 8-94 years of age and different heights and whatnots)
