Save your time, go to Pecs. Its about 1.5 hours south of Bootyfest and you will save money and have much better time. If you must stay in Budapest get in a taxi and ask to go to Captain Jacks, you have a chance for survival there.

I never shouted in my last post. I was however being truthful, and warning people that if they go inside a strip club they will get ripped off. Sorry if that upsets or offends you, but it is the truth, and I prevent just 1 person getting scammed, then my post was a success.

PS. Drinking with a guy that lost $1000 in on of these places is in my experience, as I heard it first hand.

It sounds like you lost money at or near the "Vaci utca", in the 5th district, on the Pest side, near the Elizabeth Bridge, a beautiful suspension bridge in Budapest. Yes, that whole street is a well-known tourist trap. Yes, in the 5th district of Budapest, money-loosing experiences usually start with two very nicely dressed females, either students or schoolteachers, who have highly polished manners; they're cultured, excellent conversationalist who speak English perfectly. If this makes you feel any better, try to imagine you were an unlucky actor who was selected to be in a play, and during the play you were entertained by 2 beautiful sophisticated ladies (in return for money).

If this makes you feel any better, this scam was not invented in Hungary. It probably originated in Las Vegas, where somebody had to pay for all those bright lights.

Hungarians are quite smart, talented, and creative people - one half of the Hungarian population has a college/university degree - but they still get little or no money. For 40 years, they were forced to live under tyranny, and when they came out of it, their girls have to spread their legs for us in order to make ends meet.

Sorry for what happened to you! Learn from the experience! Please keep in mind it was only money, and you can always make more money! Stop feeling sorry for yourself, get up, dust yourself off, and be glad that no physical harm was done to you!

I spent a week in the capital- Budapest. I stayed at a hostel called MELLOW-MOOD, the upstairs bar in there was my favourite part of B.P. I should have said 'In my experience'.

The reason for using caps is to get the message accross to people. But this deseves to be shouted :

Try to be specific and articulate. It sounds like you had a "bad experience", but you don't remember your experience. If you really had a bad experience, at the very least try to remember the name of the city (or town), or write it down if you usually don't have a good recall of facts the day after. It sounds like you don't remember the name of the city, you don't remember the name of your hotel, you don't remember the name of the street, and you don't remember the name of the brothel. The problem is, if you're non-specific, how can we use your experience? I'd much rather see the facts than the exclamation marks (!), carriage returns [RET], and the shouting (ALL CAPITAL LETTERS). If you use ALL CAPITALS, it takes more time to read your text. Besides, using all capitals is the online equivalent of shouting.

As to crime and Gypsies, let's not generalize. In Hungary, Gypsies are minorities, just like Blacks are minorities in the United States. In Hungary, Gypsies sometimes steal and commit petty crimes, just like Blacks sometimes steal and commit petty crimes in the United States. But to generalize and imply that Hungarians steal and commit crimes, is like implying that Americans steal and commit crimes. No, they don't.

If you're in Hungary, you shouldn't limit yourself to Budapest. Go to Miskolc, Debrecen, Szeged, etc.

Maybe Prague is an exception, but, in general, I suggest you avoid big cities, because most big cities are tourist traps. In big cities, if you make an effort to seek out tourist spots, there will be places where you will be ripped off.

OMG, worst experience ever! I was at that 'Dolce Vita' club and got ripped off like crazy. There was a woman there, extremely bitchy, who wouldn't let me go without dropping some very serious cash, which I didn't have with me. She drove with me to the nearest ATM to make sure I paid her that awful sum (and I couldn't get rid of her, I was stuck, and didn't speak the language).

This whole strip-club experience was so terrible that my whole stay in Budapest was ruined... I was in a very bad mood...

Do NOT! ever!!! go to strip clubs in Budapest or anywhere in Hungary... Many Hungarians, especially in Budapest, are greedy and bitchy and think they can fool you.

You want nice girls, good atmosphere? - go to the Czech Republic (prague).

Hi guys, I live in Budapest. I'm from the UK and have been here for over 8 years, so I think I know the scene. You are right Ossie Boy, redzone, piroslampa and all the local sites are very hit and miss. I don't tend to use them anymore. Some of the girls who say they can speak English know how to say hello and goodbye and that's about all. Also on a number of occasions the girl wasn't the one in the photo. I just hate that after having made my choice and then having to decide on the spot whether to go with one in front of you or not. It just feels such a ripoff. Now I always plan in advance. I call Viki at www.aphroditehostess.hu and tell her exactly what I want, the type of girl and what sexual services I want. She then sends me photos of her recommendation. I have never been disappointed.
Hotels in Budapest are very relaxed about bringing girls to your room. There should be no problem. The forint is now 250 to 1 euro. Hope this helps. If you need other information, let me know.

Hey Jkrall,just some quick answers to your questions.
I have lived in Hungary a couple of times although I am not there now I am going to be back for summer.
It is a great place with some gorgeous girls.
It joined the EU in may but does not have the Euro.The currency is called the Forint and I am sure you can find the exchange rate.When I was the a year ago the going price for girls in apartments was 8000 to 15000 and hour for sex.Most charged extras for some things,you have to ask.
As far as I am aware there are very few that you can email and get a direct reply from.Most of the websites ,www.redzone.hu and www.piroslampa.net have icon to whether they speak english.You have to call them when you are there and it is mostly pot luck if they are sometimes but ohter times they are.
there are a lot out there you just have to be persistant.The biggest problem I had was understanding the adresses on the phone but you can always give the phone to a taxi driver so he will understand.

Just a confirmation that Budapest is a terrrible strip club scene. My first time was in 97 and got ripped off then. I don't know the deep, dark secrets of this city, so I just keep to the normal bars and pubs and end up with normal girls or tourist like me. Someone with a good working knowledge of the system in Budapest needs to step up and tell!!!
