Comic Book Sites, Blogs you Would Rec to a Newbie?

I've been reading comics for a little over a year now, more or less in isolation from internet fandom. While slogging through years of continuity has been more fun than I imagined when I first realized just how many issues were in some of the titles I'd been eyeing (I’m looking at you, Uncanny X-Men), I'm in desperate need of a site or news blog to ground me in the current happenings in comics. I have a habit of getting so bogged down in back issues that I completely miss what’s going on in the here-and-now, which leaves me continually feeling disconnected from the internet community—it would be nice to enjoy those frustrating waiting periods between issues with everyone else, I guess.

Basically, I want to keep up to date with new comic releases and general news-worthy events, but I haven't a clue where to start beyond the few sites I've discovered using Google-fu. I’m especially interested in sites that post articles, reviews, and recommendations that, if not written for newbies, aren’t completely dependent on knowing the ins-and-outs of 60+ years of comics continuity.

I know this is extremely open-ended, but hopefully I'll amass a variety of answers and have some new shinies to add to my RSS feed.

In case it’s relevant, a sampling of the comics I’ve enjoyed the most this past year: Young Avengers, New Avengers, Runaways, Blankets, The Unwritten, Morning Glories, Batgirl, New X-Men, X-Factor, X-Force, Astonishing X-Men, Y the Last Man, Hack/Slash, and Umbrella Academy. I consider myself more a Marvel girl than anything, but I’m more than open to DC-centric sites if you have them.
