Collapsable sauna

Does anyone know where I could find a collapsable sauna? I have a client that wants one. She use to have one but lost it when Katrina hit our area. She said it would fold up and you could just plug it in and they had an area to put water to get steam. I have never heard of one like that. She purchased her at Sears many years ago and they no longer carry it.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

and I LOVE it! I previously had a "real" cedar sauna in my last house, and missed it so much. Then I went to a local health fair, saw a woman demonstrating these, and purchased one on the spot. In fact, it's sitting in my living room right now. It works great, heats quickly, and is easy to pop open and closed. I even decided to add this as an add-on treatment for my clients.

I need to use it more often. I think your client would like it a lot. With the Far-infrared heating, you don't need to add water. Your head stays outside it, and cool. Uses very little electricity, and using FIR feels so great, anyway. Between the FIR sauna and the FIR WullStones, I'm a FIR fanatic, I guess!

I am glad you commented on this. I had thought about using something like this but wasnt sure if it was a good idea. I believe there is a thread about it on this board actually.

How often do clients use your personal sauna? How do you clean it between clients? Does it accomadate large or tall clients? Does it heat up a room? Must you preheat the unit before a client gets in it? If so, how long does it take? Is the unit noisy? Is there a fan?

I found this one too and called the company the "entire" solo cost $2400, if you buy just the dome, it is $1800. The dome was made to go over a massage table. With the dome, a client would have to turn over. I spoke with a rep, and he doesnt like the more inexpencive ones like you have Peaceful! He used the word scam, said they are basically like wraping a space heater around you.

I also have one of the portable infrared saunas like peaceful harbor's. I purchased mine from ebay and paid 269.00 with no shipping cost. I think the name of the company was sauna r us. I haven't had it all that long, only 3 weeks or so. I use it most days and have to say that it feels great. I don't know that I agree about the wrapped in a space heater idea from the "real" sauna salesman. If money and space were no object, I would have a larger wooden frame, infrared sauna, but this is a good place for me to start.

Gratelakes, I have not used the sauna for a lot of clients yet...I really just came up with the idea of using it for clients recently, but I have started promoting it and so I'll try to update this thread as I get more people to try it out.

As for the Sunlight Sauna "portable" sauna, which fits over the table, I decided not to get it simply because of space issues. It's a big tube, and even collaped together, it still would take up too much space in my treatment room. I can fold my little sauna up and tuck it behind a chair.

As for cleaning, I basically line the thing with towels, which get changed after use. The towels go over the chair (folding chair that fits inside), the foot heater, and the "neck" hole where your head sticks out. Basically, no part of your body touches the unit directly. I bought the xlarge size (which is what the seller was recommending to handle most body sizes). I don't think that even tall people would have a problem.

The unit is basically silent. No fan. Just amazingly soothing heat. (Mmmmm...will have to go down and sit in mine shortly! ) I don't think it heats the room up too much, but then again I probably won't be using it too much as the weather gets warmer. Preheating takes just minutes...maybe five minutes or less. That's one of the best things about it. There is a timer that you can set for up to half an hour.

Now, don't get me wrong..like holmslm57, I'd be getting a nice large wooden FIR sauna if I could, and if it made sense for me to do so in my present location, and I do like Sunlight Saunas, but I still think that the portable sauna I have is a great solution for what I want now. Especially if I ever bring it along on an outcall.

I have seen alot of press lately on the Formostar Body Wrap system.

Do you think the portable sauna would give the same type of results even though it wasn't 'wrapped' around specific spots? You still burn calories, but I am wondering if it can be marketed as having lasting effects as the Formostar system does.

I find the idea intriguing, but the cost of the Formostar is way outta my reach for now. I also would love to know if anyone has found anything along the same lines, but more portable.

inelegant collapsable sauna

Reminds me of my first portable sauna,
sitting in a chair wearing a poncho
with an electric frying pan (filled with water)
turned on high under the chair....
Any other inexpensive, but more elegant,
ideas for a collapsable sauna?
