chiropractor touching me wrong or are they supposed to massage your hips?

got adjusted for the first time EVER and the guy crack my neck back and stretched my muscles in my back. then he went down and started to massage a part right inside my hip bone...my boyfriend came over soon when that happened and he stopped soon after my boyfriend came over. has anyone else had this...is this what they're supposed to do?? i don't want to go back to him if he was being inappropriate
might i add he also took my boyfriend me and my friend out to lunch and picked up a 40 dollar tab
to dr dan...i told him i had back pain thats why i was getting adjusted anyway...it was because my vertibres and muscles acted wierd when i would lay down (tense up, hurt, then relax) so would that be a reason he would be massaging my hip? he just got out of school hes 28 and he did the same thing to my friend...but when iw atched him with other patients he did the same things to them but no hip rubbing....

I've never been to a Chiropractor in my life hun...but I can tell you one thing...it is never "ETHICAL" for a Doctor of ANY sort,to be taking a young lady patient that he JUST met no less,"out to lunch"!!!!
So,based on THAT alone,I'd be questioning anything else that took place,I don't blame you:-(

Hey real chiropractic doctors don't twist you all up and snap your body all up. The majority of the quackery out there forget the basic principals of the mechanics. your "fix" will only be temporary when one goes to a regular chiropractor. seek one that specializes in the Palmer teaching. these "REAL" doctors practice the basic principals and do not manipulate the body. They specialize in correcting where the problem stems...the atlas and axis. that is where the head sits on the very first vertebrae. if for some reason they are not aligned as they should be...all kinds of bad things happen...heart problems, allergies, diabetes, kidney problem, migraines,ETC. Real doctors that know and practice this Palmer way..only work on the first 6 vertebrae. see when the head is not seated properly upon the spine...the nerves(spinal cord) housed inside become interfered with and pain as well as many many other things occur. It was put like this...if you plug in a lamp the bulb goes on right..k. same is true of our brain & spinal cord, when alignment is not right we suffer from nerve conduction being interfered and power down the cord is blocked and our insides are not receiving nerve signals as they should. If you must seek adjustment..find a real chiropractor..one that is a doctor. they are very hard to find. I met mine on a prayer as one chiropractor practially killed me when she twisted my head too much, i still have problems from her incompetence. There is one located in Diamond Bar California. Stay well and use wisdom. No real chiropractor doctor would twist you and touch you places with out first explaining everything. =).

You can try another chiropractor and see how you feel afterwards. Chiropractors use different methods to adjust you so you might feel more comfortable with a different one.

Im not going to go into the different chiropractic techniques or whether chiropractory is scientific based medicine or not-i'll leave that for people more knowledgable however i will say that he did not touch you inappropriately.This is something that osteopaths & "Hellerworkers" often do as they believe that sometimes backpain can be caused by a twisted pelvis and they will adjust/massage the base of your back-almost your "bum" area and also inside your inner leg/pubic area where the joint is.Also they will rotate the leg and massage/adjust the outer hip areas too.They're not doing anything sexual but you might just associate it that way because thats where sexual feelings are.They can not avoid touching these places if what they are doing is going to be effective.
For example if they're working on someone with a twisted pelvis that they think could be contributing to the backpain it isnt going to help to work on their head so whatever you do dont ring up the association & claim he has acted inappropriately like the other answer said as you could ruin someones career & rep just for doing something that is part of their job but you misinterpreted falsely.

Instead ring up the association and explain your concerns and ask them whether that is a part of regular treatment & what is it done for etc.
Working on these areas is common in Osteopathy but i havn't experience Chiropractors do it-usually they focus more on cracking-but i'm sure theres plenty of chiropractic techniques that i'm unaware of.

Really,he should have explained what he was going to do before he did it so you wouldn't feel uncomfortable or have any concerns & also when your boyfriend came over he should have explained the technique but maybe he got nervous & acted that way thinking your bf might think he was doing something inapropriate
In any case,if you feel uncomfortable you should maybe consider changing to a female practitioner.

If this chiropractor stopped touching you when you boyfriend walked in then he was aware it was inappropriate. If a chiro is going to do a procedure esp. to a new patient he/she should explain what will be done and where the touching will occur, along with getting your permission. It sounds like a guy not to go back to. Also taking you out to lunch, and picking up the tab is now against ethical rules, this guy is bad news stay away. If you are so inclined you can call the chiropractic board in that state and register a complaint.

I go to the Chiro on a regular basis for everything from my hips,neck,allergies,back,legs you name it! Quite often my Chiro adds pressure to my groin and many other parts too and sometime gets me to press that spot too while he gets me to resist by moving different parts of my body. So depending what your problem is it could be perfectly normal what he is doing! Do u feel relief after your treatment? That could also answer if what he did was normal or not too!

To answer your question, yes, if you have low back pain, especially at the level of the belt line, this could be appropriate. You didn't mention what you went to see the chiro for. On the other hand, his behavior seems peculiar to me. If I had been in his shoes, I certainly would not have stopped and would probably have shoed your boyfriend what I was working on. I would also not have taken you two to lunch and picked up the tab. Truth is, if it made you feel uncomfortable, you need to look this person in the eyes and ask for the reason that they did what they did. As a chiro myself, it sounds odd.
P.S. there is probably a reasonable expanation, but you deserve to get it.


P.S. Jacobo, I went to Palmer..in Davenport..the fountain head. The technique you describe is HIO or hole in one and has been proven to be no more effective than any other technique, also, it has never been shown to help any conditions other than neck pain. Please be sure of your facts before you open your mouth
