Can i introduce another gerbil to the two i already have?

I have two male gerbils which i have had one for about 7 months and one for about 2 months. They get along great and have a huge cage. I was wondering if i could introduce another male. I did not use the split cage method before and I would like not to do it this time. Thanks.

The best way I have found with out a split cage is to have a second cage and let the new male have time in it for 2 weeks so you know he doesn't have any problems like disease that he can pass to your other gerbils and this way he can make a scent in this cage, what you do after the 2 weeks is to put him in their cage and then put them in his cage and do this for a few days and then introduce them, if they fight then separate them and do this again. I only change the gerbils once a day so they get use to the smell in the cage. I have had lots of success with this. And no one has fault as of yet.

you probably didnt need a spit cage the first time since they were both two lone gerbils in a new environment and the second one was young. Now, even though males tend to be less aggressive and more tolerant with new comers, it would still be a good idea to use a split cage since gerbils that already have a firm clan can and most likely DO fight with other gerbils so you could end up with a dead or seriously injured gerbil(s). split cage is advised in this situation especially if for some reason you are introducing a girl gerbil(which is extremely not recommended)
