You're kidding right Yellow Bastard, about TJ not being that strict if they find marijuana on you in Tijuana?

I suggest if you follow what you heard to bring plenty of money with you to pay off a bribe if you are caught with drugs in TJ, otherwise you'll rot in a TJ jail, because the judge just might throw the 'book' at you.[ I don't know the sentencing guildlines in Tijuana if caught with drugs, it might be a good thing to find out before you do anything stupid.]

I read an article a few weeks ago on this. I can't remember where I read it (maybe on Yahoo), but the article basically was about the law changing (don't know if it's in effect yet) in Mexico to allow small amounts for personal use. Now what's considered a small amount? I can't really say. Sorry for being so vague, but maybe you can search the web to get more details.

Well, standing your ground against cops with guns in a foreign country is easier said than done in many cases. I've had my share of problems with TJ asshole cops in the past since I drive to TJ. In most cases, the problem is an isolated case, not a widespread phenomena among TJ cops. First, these assholes who make a habbit of wreacking havoc on the gringos speak pretty good English, which has got to be a small group if any. Second, they seem to use the opportunity to shake down gringos or local Mexicans out of pure boredom or to take some rest from constantly driving around a small block of ZN. Just my two cents...

Standing your ground takes a lot of skills. You don't want to appear to be an easy prey to them but at the same time you don't want to get on the wrong side of them by angering them.

FYI for any newbies. I have been walking zona norte alone every weekend
for 3 1/2 years. I'm 5-8 meduim build. I have never been approached by the policia. But the policia are always busting the locals. Quite frankly, i feel safe
with their presence. However, I am very cautious walking to La Tropa after dark. No wallet in TJ is great advice. I carry a photocopy of my DL and passport in the event I ever get stopped. I keep my wallet in the trunk of my car. I always drive to TJ and i have vip parking. Driving across the border is no big deal. I enjoy the comfort of my car, and the border crossing ranges from 20 minutes to 50 minutes. i have a clipboard in my car so I can retrive
my business or personal e-mails while I am waiting. Bottom line: I looooove
TJ.

I agree that only a few idiots who comes to TJ and looking for problems.
The majority of mongers are just there to enjoy what TJ. can offer and
have a happy time which is a non existing thing in California . If we just
look cool and act as a well behave tourist then the Mexican Policias more
than welcome us to visit TJ. The Policias are there to protect all tourists who
abide their laws orders as we should . Just don't act things We don't do in
America. No body is above the law .

Well you used good judgement. I don't appreciate anyone making racist remarks period, but it must be tough to ingnore. When in a fight in Mexico, there is no telling the police "he started it". Everyone goes to jail, unless you are lucky enough to pay a few dollars to be let loose before you go.

For you others, I cannot believe you haven't seen tourists/mongers shook down for nothing. I see if everyday and especially in Zona Norte. The secret is not letting them get your dough and always tell them you want to see a judge if they make us some bullshit charge.

I have never used drugs in my life and I would guess I have been shook down 50 times over the years. Haven't lost a cent yet in a shakedown.

I go into TJ allot and really have no prbs and never had any prbs going alone. Ive walked to Adelitas alone, REVO alone and to Boleros District alone. Most of the prbs start with the American Drunks. Ive had to bite my lip a few times from some racist American idiots in TJ. Rather than kicking his ass I decided to play dumb and ignore the situation. It amazes me how young punks get drunk make racist statements. Like everyone says if you calm and cool you will have no prbs. Most of these idiots get drunk make crazy statements have whats coming to them. These fools think that can come to TJ and act a fool. Ive seen it first hand going into TJ, in TJ and in the line coming back. 3 times I almost had to clock a fool in TJ for using the N word. The PIE is to good to let some fool set me off there.

Hey guys:
I saw the policias very aggressive with the local Mexicans guys,
but never seen any thing against Americans tourists . If you don't
mess with Policias in TJ. then I don't see any reason they will mess up
with you . I was in Miami bar one night when the Policias came and search
every body for drugs , I can understand that . I always carry a copy of passport
and CA. license just in case being asked. never a problem for over 20 years
walking in the Z.N. and the famous Revolucion .

well when me and my boys got arrested they jacked the money from us but it was at the end of the night and we only had 0-5dollars a piece on us half of us had nothing but we got in a Fight with the locals so I guess we deserved it the police were nice enough and dropped us at the border i guess you can call it a 15 dollar ride.... they put us in cuffs an shit it was funny i guess it was worth it to say we got arrested in mexico

Let me make my point clear. A couple of posts ago, someone mentioned paying for your freedom. BULL FUCKING SHIT

If you did nothing, tell the police to take you to the judge and look him in the eye. Call him by name if you can see his nameeforum.xxx. "Senor Martinez, I prefer to see the judge. My time is limited, can we go right now sir?"

Martinez is going to send you away and look for another victim, that wants to "pay for his freedom".

These guys are like feeding stray dogs. If you feed them, they will be back. You are reinforcing their bad behavior. Absolutely do not pay the police unless you broke a law, and then don't pay much. $10 or $20 will get you out of almost anything. If it is a traffic violation always take the ticket as it won't cost much anyway, and if you did not violate a law then you can take it to a judge within 2 or 3 days and tell your story and possibly get a reduced rate. I once got a ticket and the guy started at $300 and went to $80 and then $40. I took it to the judge and it was $24 and he ruduced it to $3.20. If I would have given this idiot $5, I would have overpayed. BTW, it was for going the wrong way on a one-way-street.

If you didn't violate a traffic code, then in most cases when you ask for a ticket(or demand a ticket), then the guy will not write it. Number one if he asked you to pay him, you can tell the judge and they do act on this.

I've never been stopped by copy in TJ but realize that if you are, exchanging thre money in your pocket for freedom is always a good trade.

If they ask you for $100 bucks and you don't have it the worst thing to say is no. The proper answer is, I have ___ you can have all I have.

BTW its wise to leave a $20 in your car parked on the other side so you can pay to get out of the paid parking lot in case you are fleeced.

Guys show some 'BALLS' if your not drunk, a loud mouth idiot or drunk, there is nothing to be scared of. Too much is written about TJ Police. Get out of the cab like a MAN, and walk to the US Border like you know what your doing.

The cops can smell 'fear' and will stop and shake down the weak and easily intimated, but they won't FUCK with the strong, or the locals who know their way around town. Act like you belong in TJ, even if your an Asian, or white guy.

Usually I just have him wait at the SENTRI drop off point. Were it necessary I would in essence have him "drive around the block." Fortunately, I have only rarely had to do this.
