The Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed massage therapist and esthetician Deborah Garoufalis, owner of Blue Stone Massage and Skin Care, to the organization with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Blue Stone is located at 228 Central St., Saugus. Garoufalis has been actively practicing massage therapy for over 10 years. Her belief is that โmassage is therapy for the body, mind and spirit.โ
โMassage therapy is about the client and not about selling memberships, which is the primary focus of the local franchises,โ said Garoufalis. โAt Blue Stone Massage, there are no pressuring sales tactics, and a one-hour massage means 60 full minutes of hands-on massage for the client, not the massage franchise standard of 45-50 minutes.โ
Garoufalis takes pride in the therapeutic massage services that she provides and tailors each massage treatment according to the individual needs of each of her clients, who range in age from infants to seniors and everyone in between.
She specializes in Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone, sports and integrative massage therapies all of which focus on pain, stress and anxiety relief. Her services address and alleviate symptoms of depression, Lou Gehrigโs disease, Parkinsonโs disease, fibromyalgia, post-traumatic stress disorder, sciatica pain, arthritis and more. Blue Stone also caters to adolescents dealing with depression, anxiety disorders, attention deficit disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and PTSD; teen athletes; and adults experiencing pain, stress and other physical issues that limit or impede on their daily functions.
Massage appointments range in length from 15 minutes to two hours. Clients can choose from a basic mini foot, specialized neck, back and/or joint treatment massage during a lunch break or a two-hour deep therapeutic massage.
Garoufalis joined the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce after utilizing the free SCORE Mentoring program offered by the organization. Peter Colarusso, SCORE president, sat down with Garoufalis to share his thoughts and planning strategies both prior to and after she opened Blue Stone Massage. He is an experienced professional who offered Garoufalis the business guidance that she sought.
When asked why she chose to join the chamber, Garoufalis said, โWith [the chamberโs] ongoing support, guidance and continued educational [and] networking activities, I never feel alone as a minority female business owner.โ
Garoufalis graduated from Beneโs International School of Massage in Florida in 2004, she is a nationally-certified massage therapist through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, an associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals member and is fully-licensed by the Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure.
Garoufalis is currently seeing clients from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
