Birth control newbie, help please?

I am 18, my boyfriend and I decided that I should get on birth control but we're new at this, so it would be great if you guys could answer these questions.

What do I need to look for in a doctor, girl or guy?
What should I expect going there for the first time?
How long will it take to get my birth control pills from the time I see the doctor?
How long do I need to wait to have unprotected sex?
I had my period December 2-9..can I start the birth control now or do I have to wait until my next period in January?
Anything else we should know?
Sorry for the overload but my boyfriend and I want to have sex without condoms but do it safely with birth control.

I have the answer to your first question. a women always knows what she is talking about because she has probably had your same exact experience.....hope this helps alittle

I have a girl doctor, but there are also many male gynecologists..it's all based on preference.

Your first time, you'll talk a lot about your sex life, your boyfriend, how many partners you've had, how to use the pill properly and your options of birth control other than hormonal contraceptives (barrier methods are available as well)

I got a pack of pills from my doctor the day that I went, but I guess it could vary. Your doctor will give you a prescription that day though, you can send it to the pharmacy whenever.

You need to take the pill 7 days in a row at the same time every single day in order to be protected from pregnancy and have unprotected sex

You most likely will have to wait until your period in January to start the pill.
