BB newbie needs some help!?

I got a BlackBerry Curve 8520 today and when the girl in the shop was telling my mum about it, I kinda zoned off so I'm not sure. Do I need to wait 24 hours for my internet to load up because when I tried to get onto browser it said 'Cannot connect to internet, please try again later. If the problem persists please contact your server provider' and then I connected it to my Wi-Fi but still, same thing. My mum says the girl said I need to wait 24 hours for BBM and internet. Totally stuck here, is it my internet isn't working or do I need to wait 24 hours? No sarcastic comments please. <3
If this helps any, it's an O2 mobile and the girl in the shop activated it for me!

I have one of those too, and my internet worked right away, my wifi too. Go into MENU/MANAGE CONNECTIONS and make sure both MOBILE NETWORK AND WIFI ARE CHECKED.

Make sure your sim card is not acting up also.
Otherwise complain to your carrier they have to fix the problem or you demand a replacement or refund.

I have one of those in white there good phones

wait for the the phone to activate because these phones do do alot trust me and it has to download software from o2 or orange or whatever

Hi there. try removing your Battery leaving it for 5mins or so then try it and if it still does not work tomorrow morning then Visit or call O2.
