Personally I think the Government need to sort out our education system urgently. If this means student fees, then thats the way it is. I mean the economy is really bad and there are too many people with silly meaningless degrees that aren't going to take them anywhere in life. Degrees don't have the same value as they used to. Years ago, having a degree was valued, but not now, thousands of people with the same degrees are competing for the same job. And unfortunately for the "poorer" people in the country, the jobs are going to the people with wealthy families who already have good connections with the big firms already. In this world, it is who you know, not what you know. Thousands of students are graduating and ending up in jobs like at McDonalds. This is because they are competing with thousands of others with exactly the same level of degree, often have no work experience in their area of work and don't have any good connections with the best of employers. The richer students have an advantage because they have they have been brought up in an environment where "Mr Smith who owns the large law firm in the city" is invited out to eat dinner at their house every couple of months.
I'm not trying to put dampeners on your dreams, but thats the reality of life in the big bad world. As for serious debt, I'm afraid that unless your daddy is one of the big city bank managers or something then you are going to end up in serious debt with student fees or no student fees. The student fees are only your tuition fees. You still need to live - so will need to pay bills (if you leave home), food, clothes, petrol/diesal (if you have a car), toiletries and everything else you buy on a regular basis. Plus there are student loans, bursaries, and everything else - you are required to pay all of this back. If you then leave and can't find a decent job like many other graduates then, you may not need to pay anything back at that point, but the debt will still always be there. And it will affect your credit rating too. I mean even if you had £10,000 debt, who is going to give you a mortage? Who is going to sell you a car? The answer: no one. So I'm just recommending that you give it a lot of thought. You can get many jobs trainee type jobs with local government, etc where you work "up the ladder" and they put you through all the qualifications that you need, uni included. And it doesn't get you into debt. This is the option I took and I've never looked back. Email me if you want any further info and I can point you in the right direction as I work for employment in the local government area.
Hope this helps. Like I said, I'm not trying to stop you living your dreams but university comes with a lot of problems even if you do have your fees paid for you.
As for the royal wedding, this will bring a lot of money into the country, because think of all the tourism that it will bring. These tourists need to live somewhere during their stay, eat somewhere and visit attractions. So they are spending money and giving to our economy.
