Airrosti - has anyone heard of this?

An acquaintance today mentioned that her mother has some sort of "undiagnosable" issue in her shoulder (nobody's been able to figure out what it is, apparently), and that so far the only treatment that has seemed to help at all is something called Airrosti. I've never heard of that (our friend expressed surprise that we hadn't). So I am coming to my "in the know" folks, to see what I can find out about this. Thanks.

Apparently it is a bodywork technique that helps with nerve issues. I don't know anything more than that. I looked it up online and the most I could find (in a very brief search, granted- it was a busy day yesterday) was a site that talked about classes for it somewhere down in South Texas (I think), but no details on the technique itself. If I have time, I'll try searching again.

Well - their web site doesn't give much info.

I would guess that this is simply myofascial release work packaged under a new name and some marketing hype thrown at the patient.

I am not impressed, I would stick with more experienced educators if you are looking for a class.

Consider John Barnes Myofascial Release , Waslaski or Lowe Orthopedic Massage, and check out the Upledger Institute for a number of wonderful modalities.

Thanks, Squash. With everything going on, including our "office drama", I haven't had time to look this up any further.

No, we're not looking for classes on it. We have plenty to learn as it is. I was kinda wondering if it was "something old in a new hat".

It this is really helping my friend's mother, then more power to her. She has hit a dead-end otherwise, from what I have heard. I believe that if she hits yet another dead-end with this, my friend will remember the accounts she's heard "broadcast" (not my us) about Hubby's handiwork, and try to convince her mom to give him a try.

What I don't get is, why can't the docs "diagnose" her problem? I know we haven't seen her ourselves, but if it's not anything "normal" allopathically-speaking, and "regular bodywork" hasn't helped either, then what else could it *possibly* be? I'll see if I can get some more details from my friend. This is intriguing me!

There is a LOT that doctor's can't find a diagnosis for and can't help, and quite a bit of that falls into the "tough cases" of chiropractic, massage, PT, etc. I love being able to help, and for those people that I can't seem to find a way to help, I have a hard time letting it go. There is no better choice than to say so and then let it go, but I hate that!! :irked:

I do know what you mean, Sharon. These are a large number of my Hubby's clients. Of course, *he* can't "diagnose" the, either, even when he can clearly tell what their problems are. That's a bit :irked: too, LOL!

I have a feeling that if he ever does get a chance to take a look at this woman, he'll have some ideas on how to help her. It's all up to her, of course- and if she feels she's being helped through this "Arrirosti" stuff, then at least she is getting help at all, and I am happy for her!

Airrosti is an outcome-based treatment model designed for use by physical therapists and chiropractors. It includes detailed patient assessments and a comprehensive treatment program. Their claim to fame is fast results with a minimum number of treatments. Unlike most PT/chiro visits, their web site also emphasizes that patients will receive ONE HOUR of 1-on-1 treatment time. :shock: Wow, what a concept!

There is no special technique to Airrosti - other than learning how to use PT/chiro knowledge to help patients recover more efficiently. Since their scope of practice is far greater than ours, they may well be able to assess and treat things that we can not.

The Airrosti web site has links for people to find their treatment centers. I rather like the sound of their approach to patient care, and would enjoy learning more if the opportunity presents itself.

Yes.

A few years ago I came across the technique (was told of it by a Naturopathic Doctor I know). I started making phone calls to the two DC's using it in my area at the time. I was not impressed by the "secretiveness" of it and I had to really drag the info out of them. They are colleagues and still were acting a bit too "funny" for my liking. Much of this had to do with the concept of using the "trade-secreted" line. I can't recall now, but I also vaguely recall them possibly being franchises.

Anyhoo, later, I spoke with another colleague of mine and was able to get better insight into the process (he/she, a DC, had originally planned on working with an Airrosti clinic, but later backed out, as he/she was uncomfortable with the business aspect of it).

Thank you, pueppi. I did go read the thread you linked )the one from this forum, not the one from the other forum you mentioned on the other thread on this forum. Or whatever. lol.).

The conclusion you came to about Arriosti (or however it's spelled), about it's being "elitist" and "secretive", really bothered me, and I admit that that was my conclusion too, from my brief, single-digit-second perusal of one web site I found about it. It seems too much like those "home business opportunities" that are out there- you know, the ones that claim to have housewives earning in the tens of thousands of dollars per month, but that will never tell you exactly HOW they're making that income. I simply refuse to do business with anyone like that. NOBODY is "that special". :undecided:

At any rate, I do hope that my friend's mom is at least finding help through this technique. Or something.

I do think the technique itself is probably very good. The ND who told me about it had a patient who was using the Airrosti clinic for his 14 y.o gymnast daughter. Apparantly she got good results, but with an extra-ordinarily large amount of pain. So, there is some give and take on if one wants to use the technique or if it's not for a person... but, then again, each case is unique and he said that she had healed up nicely and the pain was worth it, since apparantly she was even in more pain without the work.

I think if it is working for your friend, it's a good fit. Nothing wrong with that. Possibly the links get you to a place where you can get some more info and maybe even add some new technique/s to your practice.
